Does anyone know the difference between a grosgrain and satin ribbon?

Which would be nicer for wrapping around a favor box?

I think Grosgrain is the material Tiffany's uses...ok I need your help!

Thanks!

It's been awhile since I received anything from Tiffany, but I think they use satin ribbon. There's a store in Manhasset if you want to call and ask.

Tiffany's used satin
Grosgrain has tiny ridges in it and isn't shiny.

Re: Does anyone know the difference between a grosgrain and satin ribbon?

Texture is a major difference. Crossgrain has the ridges and also feels a little more stiff where as satin (without wire edging) is softer and more flexible. With Satin you can get single-sided or double-sided. Obviously the double sided is a little thicker because both sides have the satin showing whereas the single has satin on one side and is a little more dull on the other side.

ETA: Crossgrain is a little more dull in color (bright but not shiny like satin)
