Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

My dad bought a custom fit black tux/ white shirt for my wedding. Thing is should he wear a bow tie or tie?

FI and groomsparty/father of the groom are wearing something totally different - british mourning suits/stroller, and ties with that.

Everyone is looking a little different I think (FI is in control of groomsmen stuff - except for my dad)

Just curious as to what you girls think.

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

I prefer bow ties. But ask your dad what he would be most comfortable in.. Comfort is definitely a must!

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

I love the bowties. I WISH FFIL would be willing to do the top hat, white gloves and cane thing cause my dad really likes it, but he doesn't like it.

And unfortunately it would be weird for my dad to be that much more formal than his...

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

I personally dislike bow ties and flat out told FFIL, dad, and FH that they weren't allowed to wear them

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

Bowtie would not fit my father's figure at all.

Not gonna lie, slightly disappointed that this thread is not about Steve Martin.

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

I have the Dad's in ties and vests like the guys. The groom will be in white vest/tie, the guys will be in silver, and the dad's will wear black.

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

GM and FH are wearing vest and ties and my dad insisted on wearing a bow tie. So is FFLI. I was completely fine with that. I think my dad looked handsome in his bowtie!

It was exactly like that! He's got his suits from the 80s/90s but they won't do. None are appropriate. He hated the idea of rental, wanted something fitting him just right in the end.

I'm so surprised he said he'd wear a tie OR a bow tie. It was a moment for me. I've never in my life seen him wear a bow tie, only ever ties. He said if I chose that, it had to be pre-tied though. He's got no clue on how to tie one I don't think anyone in my family would know how to tie one!

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

If its a formal wedding the appropriate attire is bowtie. If its not then either would be fine.

Re: Father of the bride tie or bow tie?

He's surprisingly ok to wear either one, as long as if I end up picking a bow tie, he says it has to be pre-tied. So that doesnt help.

Wedding formal/informal.. i have no clue! I guess somewhere in between?

I'm not having it in a ballroom and not having it completely layed back either in a backyard or something.
It's in church with a full mass then at a vineyard (indoors), not a tent or anything like that.

I'm leaning toward a bow tie but it may be too different from everyone else in the party. Ties, theres just so many choices to pick from too!! That'd open up another can of worms..

thanks for the suggestions ladies! I've gotta keep thinking about it...
