Ideas for an outdoor engagement party in June
We'd like to do something a little different but cost efficient. We live on the water (water front property) so we have 3 yards kind of (hard to picture but we have the front and backyard and then across the street we have the other yard where we have the grills and the boat docked and stuff. We're thinking of doing a really nice barbecue, tentatively June 2nd (We've postponed twice) but I'd like some ideas so it isn't too boring. The wedding is a cross between Tiffany themed (in color but not style) and beach/nautical themed.
ANY suggestions are welcome.
Also, is it custom to give out favors at an engagement party?
AND
Do most people give gifts at an engagement party?
THANKS LADIES!

Re: Ideas for an outdoor engagement party in June
Go check out Party City, they have some really cute beachy and islandy stuff out right now- drink glasses with hibiscus flowers, palm tree coolers, tiki torches, etc.Plus they have a lot of stuff on sale!
I'm almost positive that it's custom to give out favors. I don't think it has to be a big elaborate thing, but something nice to set a good tone for the whole wedding process in general.
I'm not expecting gifts since people will be coming to the Bridal Shower, Bach party, Wedding, + some people already sent Engagement gifts. I think most people do wind up bringing something though, but it's not 'expected' persay.

We had a BBQ at my mothers house for our engagement party. We did not give out favors, BUT we did get gifts.I think since you're having a more casual affair - favors really aren't customary. IMO

We gave out small plastic jars with chocolate truffles from Morgan's Bay Confections as our favors. Everyone loved them.
People give a mix of both gifts and money. We got a lot of items from our registry and about $1200. I'm sure if we didn't register before hand, we would've gotten more money and less gifts, but we decided we could use either.

For favors, it depends on big your party is and how much you emphasize it's an engagement party. If it's just an outdoor BBQ then I don't think you need to give out favors.

Hi you could do an edible favor like cookies or brownies. I got some gifts but 90% gave cash for my e-party. You could do a themed e-party like a luau, mascarade ball, cinco de mayo, etc.....

Re: Ideas for an outdoor engagement party in June
We are were at an outdoor engagement party this past Saturday and the couple hired an accordian player. This was a backyard party so I'm not sure an accordian player would fit for a beach party but I would definitely recommend some kind of live music, even if it's not for the whole duration of the party. It really set the mood and was so relaxing. As for gifts, like someone else mentioned we got about 90% money and the rest gifts.
For favors, we gave out white chocolate dipped fortune cookies at ours but have been to a few where we received a small, inexpensive favor.

I saw these articles and thought it would be perfect for your outdoor engagement party. A nice outdoor country style theme gives it a nice touch.
