Queens Cty Farm Museum, Pavilion at Sunken Meadow - feedback?

hi all,

Am looking at these two spots for an April/May wedding and would love to hear feedback on either - has anyone seen weddings at either location? I've only seen the raw space and am having trouble imagining what either would look like 'all dressed up'.

THANKS!!

Re: Queens Cty Farm Museum, Pavilion at Sunken Meadow - feedback?

I have to be super honest here. I recently attended a wedding at the pavilion at SM and I have to say that I was absolutely SHOCKED that it was Lessing's property.

I'd been to other Lessing's locations so I was expecting the caliber I'm accustomed to. Unfortunately, I think the pavilion is the 'step-child' and not much TLC went into this venue.

The food was mediocre - bride/groom had a buffet picnic style w/a roasted pig. It wasn't horrendous by any means, and it could be due to the selections made.

However, what bothered me the most was the actual venue - I understand it's on a beach and we're accustomed to creatures lurking, but the place was filthy! There were spiderwebs in every nook & corner, there were huge bugs crawling on the table cloths and across the floor. Again, I'm not sure if it's b/c of the beach, but I thought a little more mainteance could be done to keep such critters out. The bathroom is literally a bath-house found at a beach and had a terrible smell even though there were candles to draw the smell out!

The linens were in terrible condition - mismatched, frayed, and very old; as were the flatware and china.

Finally, I spoke with the bride a few weeks after her wedding and she told me that they were a PITA to deal with. They didn't want to budge on anything at all - alternatives to certain dishes for the cocktail hour or reception, getting someone on the phone or through email and such.

She (the bride) wanted to decorate a little more and she said that the Banquet Manager didn't work with her as much as any other venue would. I don't know the details, but that was a complaint from the bride.

Now - not all negatives - as a guest - my positives were that the staff was super friendly and very attentive and the bartenders were fantastic - they had a moderately heavy hand so no complaints about watering-down the drinks!

The Queens City Farm Museum looks amazing! I wish I could have thrown a party there. I also recently learned that Bailey's Arboretum has events as well. You should check it out.

I haven't posted much on these boards in a long time. But I wanted to reply to this post.

My daughter just had her wedding at Queens County farm on Oct 21st. It was great! She's very laid back. She had 11 kids at the wedding, so she included the Animal feed and Hay ride for all the guest. IF you like I can send you a link to some of her pictures. FM me if you have any questions.

Good Luck!

ETA: I made an album in my profile, if you want to check out some pictures.
