Re: Do you tip the seamstress at the Bridal Salon?
Allison, great question! Since many of us either haven't even bought our gowns or gone for final fittings, maybe you can post this question on the Newlyweds board to see what the ladies who are already married did...???

TaniaI don't like to post on that board
I am superstitious. I must wait until I am officially a Newlywed. I am hoping that they will come over here and read this

Re: Do you tip the seamstress at the Bridal Salon?
YES, YOU DO TIP HER a little at each fittingfor like a $65-$75 'job' you give about $10 ...
*Remember this person is working on your gown, you want her to remember you and do a great job...
I used to work at a Dry cleaners which was in a nice area and
yes they were expensive, but you 'TIP' based on the service they provided..(like the shampoo girl, hairdresser and bartender to name a few) By the way make sure you give her the tip yourself and not to the store owner.this is JMO from what i have seen customes and Brides do so I thought i'd let you know...BUT if you dont tip i doubt she'll hunt you down

Re: Do you tip the seamstress at the Bridal Salon?
I didn't. I had my alterations done at David's because I figured I need a special double bustle becasue of my dress, and they would know best how to do it. All told my stuff cost over $300!!!!
And I had to go back a few times because they kept messing up and 2 of my BM's dresses also. I was definitely NOT tipping them!!

I've never heard of this. I feel so bad. I didn't tip and I was a total Bridezilla to my seamstress and she was so patient with me.

Re: Do you tip the seamstress at the Bridal Salon?
I didn't but then again it was through a bridal salon who was charging me a fortune. Plus I always had a bridal consultant with us when we did the fittings. I don't think the seamstress expected it at all - at least that's not what she portrayed to me. If I got it done at an independent place or a regular seamstress (not a bridal salon), then yes i would tip her.

Re: Do you tip the seamstress at the Bridal Salon?
My mom is a dressmaker and belive me they get so happy when you give them a tip just make sure you find out if the girl that fits you is the girl that is doing the work on your gown. This is the way it goes in most places.... You go for a fitting they call a dress maker and the girls take turns going... They hang the dresses on a rack that are numbered in date order so that they work on the gowns in order...Every day the girls go in and pick up the first gown on the rack Dressmaker A may have pinned the gown but now dressmaker C is going to work on it since it is the next gown in the line.
If you like the girl that does the fitting ask for her personally to do the work and to put her name on it.
Then when you pick up your gown you can tip that girl but make sure you give it to her and no one else.
IF you dont know who is working on the gown instead of giving $$ you can bring in a tray of cookies or bagels or something in that order for the dressmaking dept. It dosnt have to be expensive but they will be happy that you thought of them.

Re: Do you tip the seamstress at the Bridal Salon?
I have no intentions of tipping, at least not right now. Kleinfeld's charges a mandatory $400, which I thikn is A LOT for alterations. If I find that I work with the same woman and she goes above and beyond, I may reconsider.
