What to do about a check made out to Mr. and Mrs. ____
A collegue of mine sent my dh and I check made out to Mr. and Mrs. _____. I don't think I can cash it this way, and I'm a little embarassed to ask her about it. What should I do? Should I **** up my embarassment and talk to her anyway?

Just sign it- they really don't check- I signed checks with my new last name weeks before we got married.

You can prob. cash it. Most banks are pretty understanding about the whole marriage thing. I cashed checks made out to my first name with my husband's last name, and to Mr. and Mrs. ....., and I never changed my last name.Especially if you're just depositing it, they should take it.

If it's not a significant amount, the check will probably clear through without a problem. If not, the bank will send the check back to you.I've encountered more scrutiny with the banks lately. We've had checks sent back to us from the bank because the check was made out to Mr. & Mrs. and I had only deposited the check to my own account. We ended up having to open a joint bank account so we could deposit our wedding checks that were made out to the both of us or addressed to me in a variation of my married name.

I deposited a check yesterday that was made out to Mr. & Mrs. W even though we are not getting married for another few weeks. The bank didn't even look twice at it, which surprised me, especially since FI's name isn't even on the account that I deposited the check into.I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I had check for my eparty that was made out to Mr. and Mrs Jimmy and since we have a joint account I just had my fiance sign his name and deposit it with only his name and Citibank did not even ask a question.Bridget

Re: What to do about a check made out to Mr. and Mrs. ____
Unfortunately this was NOT easy for us. Most of our checks were written this way, and it took a few weeks for us to cash them because Citibank gave us so much crap! They wouldn't add me to his account becuase my name change wasn't official yet, they wouldn't even hyphenate me because I only had a copy of my marriage affadavit, not the original. So that took extra time because I had to get my official marriage license, then get to social security and the DMV.... we finally worked it out but it was a mess for a while!! I guess some branches are more lenient than others, but we got stuck with a nasty one.

Re: What to do about a check made out to Mr. and Mrs. ____
I guess I didn't explain this well enough. The check was made out ONLY to Mr. and Mrs. - no last name, just Mr. & Mrs. We've cashed other checks with Mr. and Mrs. XXX with no problem, but this only says Mr. & Mrs. I know this puts a different spin on things, so what do I do? Do I need to tell her to write out another check with our last name? Can I fill in my last name and initial it? By the way, she wrote our last name on the outside of the envelope she sent, so it's not as if she didn't know it. Anyway, if anybody can help me with this situation, I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys!

Ohhh, ok! Just fill in your last name. It will be fine. My mom used to give me blank checks when I was in college.. just signed by her (and we had different last names). I'd fill them out and it was never a problem. As long as the person who own the account signed it, you should be fine!

I have to wait til I get my official license and open a joint account.I am so DONE with Fleet anyway. They are nothing but trouble!
