Yes, I agree with espo that Plataforma is awesome but you better be very hungry when you go there

hahahaha thats so me as well., DH always warns me but I can't help I'm too obsessed with the side dishes specially when it comes to rice....There's a place in Philadelphia called Fogo de chao that is even beter than Plataforma, I'm wishing they'll open it here, its my husband favorite place everytime we go to Brazil he wants to eat there all the time, no wonder we put at least 10 pounds everytime we go to Brazil

Fluer de Sol is an excellent Spanish restaurant.

Rocco is an excellent Italian place in the village

Son Cubano is supposedly excellent

L'Ecole is great- its operated by the students at The french Culinary Institute.

i went to son cubano bc everybody kept saying how delicious it was. Both Dh and I were not impressed at all with the food. The place is nice though, but we love cuban food and compared to other places, i felt it was eh. But like you said, its such a hot trendy spot that i think ppl go bc of the name.

DH and I are actually going tonight. I just amde a reservation. We got a gift certificate for it as a wedding gift. DH's band is playing only a couple of subway stops away and isn't going on till 10 so we figured its a good ngiht to use it.

the atmosphere is real good there, it is a fun place so you'll have a great time. The food wasn't horrible not like we were saying 'OMG THIS IS DISGUSTING' just that some things we ate didnt have as much flavor as other cuban restaurants. We also ate there late at night so maybe that was the case.

I was reading reviews on citysearch and menupages and a LOT of people were saying the same things as you. So now Im not going to get my hopes up. LOL. But I figure we have the gift certificate, so if its not great, its no biggie. The people who got it for us are from Maine and got if based on a recommendation from their daughter who lives here.
DH and i went to their sister restaurant, Fleur De Sol a couple of years ago and LOVED it!

i think that was the problem for us, we had higher expectations, everyone always raved about it so we were so excited and couldn't wait. Then it was like hmmmm the rice and beans dont have as much flavor as other places where you really taste the seasoning. Thats what it came down to. Plus you said its a GC so no biggie. Have fun though, the place is beautiful and you'll have a great time no matter what.

OK. What about The View? Anybody been there? People at work are recommending it to me but I read a bunch of bad reviews online.

the view is very romantic. The floor spins and is best to go when the sun is about to set. I have only gone for drinks and they were great. Really don't know about the food.

check out 'BED' google it. It's in the factory, the elevator takes you up and you eat on a bed. I took DH for his bday and he loved him. The bill ran up to $250 excluding drinks. The food seemed to be little but it was delicious and really filled us up. You can try Water Edge which is in LIC Queens. You can take their water taxi from the city to go eat dinner and then take it back if you are planning on staying in the City.

Bed was a closed a while ago.
