Re: If you did not live with you DH prior to marriage was a hard transition for you?

I lived with my parents before getting married and he lived with his. After getting married (about 3 months ago), we moved in and it has been great for us so far.

I was scared that the transition would be rough for us considering we had never moved out alone. Now we have our own privacy together and thankfully it hasnt been rough so far.

for us, it wasn't too bad... we lived 2 hours away from each other the whole time we were dating (4 years) so we would see each other on the weekends, and spend the WHOLE weekend together. so this was really good for us to get used to being with each other for long periods of time...
we bought our house about 6 months before the wedding, so we would stay there together on the weekends, and that really helped with the transition to living together in our own house.
it did take a some adjustments, though- hes an only child, his mom never worked, so he was used to having everything done for him
BUT, i have to say, hes great now! he does his laundry, and willl throw mine in sometimes if it needs to be, we're learning to cook together ( he always helps me, because he loves coming up with new stuff to make). i had been worried about the whole cooking thing, becasue i had never really cooked before we got married, but i really found out its easier than you think to throw together a meal- the george foreman and the crock pot are my best friends!

The first 6 months were kind of rough. We closed on our first house a month before our wedding, so we had some stress with that, and all the new bills and everything else.

It defintely was an adjustment. And I thought being together for 9 years would have made this easier, but there was a transition period for us.
