Re: Making a gown into curtains or baby's comforter
I'm definately cutting up my dress! I love it but lets face it - we will never wear it again, its just going to sit in the attic and the chance that our daughters would want to wear our dress is small. So I would rather use it and make something out of it. I wanted to make a christening gown but my husband says his boys will not wear gowns. LOL
And were now done having children and have no girls.. So we were thinking of a quilt with a piece of everyones gown.. and hopefully people will add a piece of something and it can keep going or something.. Who knows..

i could NEVER EVRR rip my wedding dress up!
Its not about 'ripping it up' it is about doing something special with your gown so you can be reminded of it each day, instead of when you are in the attic looking for something...

My baby's christening gown was made from the slip of my Great-grandmother's wedding gown. It's over 100 years old. 13 of us have worn it over 4 generations. It's so special to us that I think it would be a wonderful idea if someone were to do it with their gown now.![]()
That is so special. What an heirloom!!! Thinking about it and seeing it in the pic is making me emotional!

My sister made hers into her daughters christening outfit. It was gorgeous. she said with the rest, she may make a communion outfit.

once i have my dress cleaned i'm donating it to charity. i had a very simple dress.
i think it's a great idea to get more use out of the dress. that's just me.
That's what I'm thinking too. I'm finally taking it to be cleaned this weekend and then I'll probably donate it. It's hard to do, but the reality is that if I have a daughter, she will want to pick her own gown, just as I did!
