Thanks very much for all your advice.....I read all your posts about 3 times!! DH told me today that he thought about everything and he is going to put my name on the deed as soon as my co-op is sold, that he wants me to feel that it is OUR house, not his and he feels terrible that I am upset. I am not exactly thrilled with waiting BUT I am OK with it...and we are also getting wills made up and we are each other's sole beneficiary.
Thanks ladies........![]()

I would take ALL the money from the co-op sale and put in MY bank until he put my name on the house! That is just me. If he wants to be wary then so should you.

That's great to hear! People thinks wills are only important when children are involved but that is truly not the case..my DH is a lawyer/estate planner and sees bad things happen all the time when people are not prepared. I'm glad you talked about it though...

Re: Please tell me your honest opinion......(sorry, long!!)
honestly I would be very upset also..you definately need to talk to him about this..and definately keep your money from your co op to yourself (maybe put it into a savings account as the other girls suggested)..especially if he won't include your name on the deed..personally (as horrible as this may sound) use the money toward yourself..until he comes around...if your going to split half of your money..he should split half of the ownership on your (or in this case his) new house..meaning the deed,...good luck..I hope everything works out!

Re: Please tell me your honest opinion......(sorry, long!!)
I would not contribute any of the sale of the co-op to his home without your name on the deed, even though in divorce, unless you have a pre-nup or contractual agreement otherwise, you are likely still entitled to a portion of the home. You need to protect yourself, and this is a gray area, since it was a pre-marital asset.
You might want to consult an attorney before you make any decisions. I'll ask on Monday if anyone knows.
