I'm considered the next best thing to internal, but not really 'internal' because I would increase head count. Which I never understood, since they'd need to backfill whatever position this person just came from. So they'll always be an increase. I'd get preferential treatment over someone that never worked there, but not over someone who currently does.

I was bummed when I got the news yesterday but I'm feeling a lot better today.
