Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

Thanks everyone. I'm so used to putting everyone else first, I guess I'm having a hard time with this. I feel so selfish! But I'm going to stick to my decision this time. His father can stay next door.

In that case, we'll spend Christmas Eve with his family, Christmas morning alone, then off to my family for Christmas dinner.

I hope it all goes as planned now....

We will be alone in the morning and then we will go to my parents house for dinner in the afternoon.

Cindy,

We spoke about it again this morning. He understands. But I still feel awful for even asking that his father not be with us on Christmas morning. I feel so guilty and mean....

Karen, if it makes you feel any better, I think you are completely ENTITLED to have your Christmas morning alone w/your DH! You are newlyweds, and have been separated for the first half of your first year - which could not have been easy! You deserve this special time with one another to celebrate alone and in your own way.

I completely understand how you feel. My in-laws are coming up from Florida the day before Christmas, so we are hosting Christmas dinner. But, I already told Jeff that NO ONE is welcomed at our doorstep before 1PM on Christmas Day. I want Christmas morning alone with Jeff and Paul - our first Christmas in our new house, and our first Christmas alone as a family unit! That is our time together and that is how I feel - non-negotiable!

Karen Don't think I didn't get my way by throwing a few tears in there! Truthfully, that's what my heart really wants and Jeff agrees....that should be OUR time!

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

Scott and I have gone to his family's home on very late Christmas Eve so we have never woken up alone on Christmas Morning. This year- it is different. Now that we have Molly the rule is that she wakes up in her own home and Santa comes here. So we are leaving for his family's house later that night. I am really excited to wake up in our home (our first Christmas in our house too) with our cat and daughter!

Re: Are You and DH Spending Christmas Morning Alone?

UPDATE!! Yay!!!!

I stood my ground, and my DH's father is going to stay next door at my SILs. It really even wasn't an issue between DH and I. He completely understood how I felt.

So DH and I will get our Christmas morning alone. Yippeeee! I love my FIL and he's such a dear man, but it was so important to me to have that special time alone with my DH on our first Christmas morning! We'll get the best of both worlds, seeing his dad for Christmas, but still having our privacy.

Woo hoo!!
