8/4/13 Fox Hollow wedding
I had such an amazing day, mostly because of all the amazing people I have in my life. We had a lot going on this past year, and our bridal party was extremely supportive. My MOH and my mom were so involved and did so much of the work, I don’t know how I can ever thank them. We owe so much of the success to them.If anyone has any questions on a vendor, feel free to FM me.
My Custom Wedding Shoppe (Invitations) – A+
I knew what I wanted for invitations, but couldn't find anything on the web for a reasonable price. Until I found Kristyn. I described what I was looking for and she did a few workups based on my comments. She was able to create something that was tailored exactly to my liking. I was very happy with the customization provided, the price point, and the turnaround time.
Bridal Reflections (my dress, MOB dress, BM dresses) – A
I went to Massapequa for my dress and bridesmaid dresses and my Mom got hers from the Carle Place location. I was lucky to have a $500 off coupon from the “Race for the Ring” the year before. Plus, my bridal party got a 15% discount, since I got my dress there. MaryLou was my consultant and picked out a dress that I probably wouldn’t have picked off the shelf, but was absolutely perfect for me. Luckily, I hardly needed any alterations.
Esquire (Tuxedos) – A+
They were very attentive - great customer service. The prices were good and they gave the groom a free rental.
Barrons (Veil) – A+
I went to Barrons less than a month before the wedding, not realizing how far in advance you are supposed to order this. Fortunately, he was able to get it for me in time. I brought a picture of a veil I liked (that I’d tried on with my dress at BR) and they were able to recreate basically the same exact thing for half the price. It came out amazing.
Marcie’s cake creations (Grooms Cake) – A+++++
DH had been taking flying lessons for a while so I decided to surprise him with an airplane groom’s cake. At first I had my heart set on a 3D cake that was an airplane, until I priced it out and found out that would be $400! I sent Marcie a picture of DH and pictures of the plane that he had been flying and she was able to personalize the cake so much, it was amazing. He was so surprised and everytime he looked at the plane he noticed another detail that she incorporated. Plus, it was red velvet with cookies and cream filling, and was ridiculously tasty.
Lawson Pub (Rehearsal dinner) – A
We were displaced after Hurricane Sandy until a few weeks before the wedding. We were so happy to have the RD in Oceanside, because in addition to being a ‘rehearsal dinner’ it was a celebration of our returning home. They have great food and a really great vibe there.
Nancy from Plainview Cactus Salon (Hair)- A
Nancy had done my friend’s wedding 5 years earlier so I knew I wanted her for mine. I had a basic idea of what I wanted, but she dressed it up with some soft braids and I love the final look.
Stacy Doolan (Makeup) – A
I really never wear makeup, so I'm usually uncomfortable getting my makeup done. She was able to give me a natural look, while still providing coverage and looking great in pictures. On my wedding day, I still felt like me, just an enhanced version.
Camelot (Limo) – A-
My limo was fine, but my DH complained that his was stifling hot. They pumped up the AC when they go in, but he said it didn’t start to cool off until they had just about arrived. Also, each limo only had one bottle of champagne. We only needed pick up/drop off because we had the ceremony at the hall, so that might be why, but that is pretty weak for 8 people in a limo. My biggest disappointment was that the driver didn’t do the ‘Here comes the bride’ honk. That’s always my favorite part of the limo ride for a wedding. I realize none of this is a big deal at all, but it took some of the fun out of it.
Pink Peony (DOC) – A+
Having a DOC made my life so much easier. I am so glad I hired them. I stress out easily and from early in the morning, I felt like I was being pulled in a million directions. It was so great to have two extra sets of eyes to oversee everything and take care of the things I just didn’t have time to deal with. I put a lot of the wedding planning on the back burner in the months before the wedding, because I was so stressed out dealing with the Hurricane. They helped keep me on track with reminders and suggestions, and answers to any questions I came up with. They were extremely helpful throughout, for an extremely distracted bride.
Ken Hild (Photographer) – A
For starters, my teasers were on facebook the very next day after my wedding. We have over 1200 proofs from him and are waiting for a few hundred more. There are so many great pictures, I don’t know how we are going to narrow it down for the album.
Frank Ahn (Videographer) – A (based on highlights video) pending full video
Well, I’m obsessed with the highlights video (http://vimeo.com/74309396). I cannot wait to get the entire edited video, which should be pretty soon. I can’t wait to see all the things that I didn’t get to see (the processional & recessional for the ceremony, cocktail hour, hospitality hour) and relive the parts that I was there for.
Keith from NY Marriages (Officiant) – A+
Keith did an amazing job with our ceremony. It was the perfect balance of personalization without being boring and romance without being corny. I got so many compliments on the ceremony afterwards.
Parties Alive (DJ & Photobooth) – B-
I saw Richie as the MC at a friend’s wedding and decided to hire him based on that. We met with him twice and went over all of our customizations and really enjoyed his personality. So we were very surprised when a stranger introduced himself to us as the MC on our wedding day. He also didn’t seem to have been told anything about us – he kept calling DH ‘Steve’ when almost everyone in the room only calls him Stephen because ‘that’s what all his paperwork said’ even though I had discussed that. Also, when he called all the married couples out for the anniversary dance, he specifically called up DH’s parents who are divorced, which we also discussed at our final meeting. I stressed at the final meeting that the Horah was an extremely big deal to my mom. For some reason, they waited til later on in the reception to do it and half the bridal party (including my brother) weren’t in the room for it. There are more things I could list, I feel like they really dropped the ball because all of the things that were important to me weren’t communicated to the MC. (Because the MC I thought I had switched out without telling me.)
The photobooth was another disaster from Parties Alive. It was blurry for about half of the time and the pictures weren’t printing out right for a while. The props they had were really fun, and looking through the blurry pictures was really disappointing because there are some that would have been really cute.
I reached out to Richie after the wedding to give him an opportunity to explain before I posted a review. He assured me that he was very surprised to hear this and would call me the next day. That was six weeks ago…
Burtons (Flowers) - A
I’m not a big flower person, so Burtons made my life really easy. Since it’s the same price for any flower, I booked them and then took my time picking what I would want. I brought them a picture from Pinterest and they recreated it and modified exactly how we wanted. They gave us a really sweet arrangement for the flower girl basket for pictures and also an extra bouquet.
Francescos (Cake) - B
I brought in a picture of a cake I was obsessed with and paid extra for the fondant and sugar flowers. When we arrived at the hall, I was really disappointed to see that there were no sugar flowers on the cake. It still looked elegant, but very very plain since the flowers would have been the only color. I called them and they apologized, refunded me, and told me that the next occasion that I need a cake it will be on the house.
Fox Hollow – A
Overall, the day was amazing. The rooms were set up beautifully, the food was great, the staff was great, the bridal attendant (Ana) was outstanding. But there were some small things that were discussed at both our meeting to pick the menu and the final ‘drop-off’ that didn’t happen on the day of. The only one that really caused an issue was that we had told them we’d like to stay in the ceremony room right after the ceremony for a big family picture. They said that would be ok, we should just let everyone know to hang out in the room. So we told 40 people that this was happening and then on the day of they said that it wasn’t possible. We had to figure out where to go and then find all 40 people, which took about 15 minutes. We ended up unable to go to any of our cocktail hour because of that and another family issue, so that was a bit disappointing. The staff did bring us food from the CH so we were able to eat some of it at least.
I was going to give an A- because of the above but they really were very accommodating. We were under our minimum so they agreed to throw in some extra desserts. Also, we had an exit station with cookies and soft pretzels and some iced tea and lemonade in to go cups. Since we didn’t get to eat much with all the excitement, our bridal attendant packed up a huge box of goodies and delivered it to our hotel suite. It was also great to be able to just walk across to the hotel afterwards.
Little extras:
Oriental Trading – I ordered a few things from here including personalized toasting flutes and ‘just married’ imprint flip flops – which were the best prices I saw anywhere
Vistaprint – ordered a few things from them and they have great customer service. I needed to reach a minimum so I added a “Future Mrs. Sweatshirt” which really wasn’t nice, so I wouldn’t recommend that.
Etsy – all A’s:
Embroidered handkerchief for my dad - InspiredStitches
Personalized beer mugs for groomsmen and tumblers for FG & RB - WaterfallDesigns
My headpiece from seller Amoretto – my favorite piece I wore that day

The tables of 12 didn't seem too crowded at all. I was actually there as a guest about 6 months ago and at a table of 12 (of course I counted, lol) and it was completely comfortable. I actually had the reverse problem. Because of a few last minute cancellations, I had one table of 8 and a couple with 9. The 9 weren't too bad but the 8 definitely looked too empty.
