My Perfect Fairytale Wedding! 5/4/2012 Jericho Terrace, Lighthouse, GT Modern Creation, Distinctive, Cheeky Glam, Camelot, MRG, Mya Cosmetic Artistry

LIW: A+
When I first started planning I was freaking out and didn’t know what to do. First off I had never been to a wedding or knew someone that has gotten married. Secondly I live in the Bronx so I didn’t know any vendors in Long Island. Freaking out I googled all I could about my reception hall and found LIW. I read about all these vendors and saw how all of the girls here were helping each other more than planning books could ever help me. Who knew I would meet some amazing people including my date/hall twin Judy and my other date twin Kerri just to name a few. All my ideas and confidence came from you girls and there is no greater help than that. This site and what it offers is priceless. Thank you LIW girls!

Engagement: A+
Anthony and I were trying to get engaged a few years before and he started paying for the ring, but money got tight so we put plans on hold. I told him that I really wanted the proposal in Disney World. Because of that Anthony held off on proposing because it would cost a lot to go down there just to propose and also it was like I was planning it. I decided to be flexible and said well then bring Disney to me. So we got the ring together and the hard part was for him to surprise me with his proposal. Anthony started planning with a co-worker of mine. On a Friday afternoon my co-worker said that there was going to be free ice cream outside by the parking lot (numerous parties are held out there) so we should leave work early. As we are walking out I see a red carpet and thought “Well they went all out for ice cream didn’t they”. Then I saw Anthony but initially thought he was the ice cream man. Then I realized it was him dressed as Prince Charming. He had a glass slipper in his hand the same that they give for the proposals at Disney and my ring was inside. My boss had stolen my car keys and he parked it behind him decorated with balloons. There was a crowd watching and Anthony really created that Disney feeling. I definitely found myself a true prince.

E-party Invites: Vistaprint A+
I was looking for a simple postcard and got a decent deal.

Engagement Party: Van Cortlandt Park A+
I wanted to celebrate, but at the same time not break the bank since we are paying for everything ourselves. We decided on a bbq in the park not too far from our house in Van Cortlandt park. They had just put in new tables and it was close to a bathroom so that was a plus. My brother was the cook and we went shopping for burgers, hot dogs, and some drinks. I had the rest of my guests provide the rest of the drinks and snacks instead of asking for money or presents. I hit up the dollar stores and got balloons, plates, cups, silverware, and table cloths in my wedding colors. Our CPs was bowls of chips and I ordered a nice sheet cake in my colors as well. For favors I got bags to fit the theme and placed ring pops and kisses inside. The weather wasn’t the greatest. It was cloudy and rained right before the party. For May it was still a little chilly, but we made the best of it. Everyone still came out and had a good time. I kept obsessing about games which we barely played since everyone just kept busy talking to each other. I did my own hair and makeup so that wasn’t fancy either. I loved that we kept it simple and on a budget.

Bridal Shower: We did it at my MOH’s house cause again we are all about budget. It was a masquerade theme so everyone had to wear a mask. It was a blast!

Bachlorette Party: Awesome 80’s Prom A+
It was a lot of fun and the actors will flirt and dance with you. It’s a great show with great music. We stayed after the show was over to enjoy the club. Then we headed to Dangerfield’s where we were the center of attention because of our outfits. We stayed at Affinia 50 through a crazy deal from Priceline. They had a full kitchen and tons of space. Highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel: Hampton Inn Garden City A+
We stayed there the night before in two separate suites that have queen beds and spent the wedding night in the king sized suite. Because of booking all their suites they gave me a great deal on the rooms. Now the hotel is not the fanciest but it is very spacious which was great for all the photographers and video to just do their thing while me and the girls got ready. Also they late us stay in the pool after closing since we were celebrating our wedding. We had amazing service there.

Save the Dates: Magnet Street A+
This was the only place that had a beautiful fairytale themed magnet and was in purple!! It was easy to customize and they sent me extra magnets free of charge.

DJ: MRG Productions A+
My first look at them was at a bridal showcase in Westchester and I totally clicked with the MC Alex. All it took was a few minutes and I knew that I wanted to book with them. They really got the crowd moving and dancing and that was what I was looking for. They had spotless reviews so I felt like I was in good hands despite the fact that I had really specific requests. Before the wedding Marty upgraded my light package at no extra cost because they had a wedding right after mine in the same room so that was a nice bonus! A lot of songs I wanted for my ceremony were from video games so I sent them MP3 files. Also I picked out every song for my cocktail hour and gave them a CD. The day of I brought backup of my music just in case, but I didn’t even need it.
For our entrance into the reception I also had another specific request because DH and I was doing a mini performance. I had told my bridal party that they needed to each take 40 seconds of dance time and my MC said that wouldn’t work. Instead he wanted me to just tell them what time I wanted to come in and they will stall if they need to. It worked out so much better their way and they timed the fog machine perfectly for when we came out. The music was pumping and they played all my requests even songs that I wanted for dinner. My MC Alex kept the party going and made the garter removal super entertaining! He was such a doll to work with and I highly recommend MRG!

Photographer: Lighthouse Photography A+
Looking for a photographer was really hard because I didn’t want traditional shots and also needed someone within my budget. The magic all began on Saint Patrick ’s Day when I had my appointment with Florio. Due to traffic I made it there at 9 when we were supposed to meet at 7. I can’t even believe that he waited that long. We spent two hours talking to him and we felt extremely comfortable with him and you need that with a photographer. DH and I are both very shy so the fact that we could open up to him easily was a good sign. Definitely the best appointment I have ever been to. Florio is always easy to reach and got back to me very quickly even during Hurricane Irene when they lost power.
Our e-shoot was done at Robert Moses and was so much fun. I really loved taking pictures and the different shots he got of us. My pictures were up for viewing in a week and I got the CD the following week. Totally fell in love with the CD case. I was really impressed and just love our pictures!

A few months before the wedding I decided to add a second photographer and it was so worth it!!! Michael was our other photog and he did just as an amazing job as Florio! They took great shots and made sure that we kept on track with timing and that I got all my must take pictures. I gave them a small list and didn’t need to mention what details I wanted shots of. I did not find them intrusive at all and felt totally comfortable! Just shy of a month they had my pictures ready for viewing. Can’t wait to see my album.

Videographer: GT Modern Creation A+++
Picking a videographer that wasn’t going to break the bank was hard because I wanted the cinematic video. Working with Gabriel was really easy and was definitely in my budget. He works his wife Caritza who is a doll and they do such an amazing job together. Any questions I had they were quick to respond and really listened to my input. On the day of they arrived early and excited to film. They were so personable talking to me while I got ready and helped me relax. For the rest of the day I barely noticed them and they took such amazing video without being intrusive. I highly recommend GT they were a blast to work with!

Dress:Gowns by Louise B+
Before I went shopping I already had a dress in mind. I headed to a store close to my house in the Bronx and found out that they don’t let you try on dresses there. How can you just blindly order a dress without trying it on? Turns out most stores in the Bronx don’t let you. I was desperate to try it on and called on Easter Sunday some more places that were local and I found Gowns by Louise. It’s a tiny little boutique, but they were so helpful. They didn’t have the dress I wanted so they did their best to find similar ones. My thing was that I wanted a detachable train. It only took 3 dresses before I put on the one. This dress actually was one of my original top choices. When the consultant put the veil on my head I teared up instantly. The dress and veil went perfectly together. I got a steal on the dress since it was from a trunk show. I didn’t have the money to put a deposit down but they said they would hold the dress for a week even though the sale ended the next day.
My biggest problem came with my alterations. I went during prom season so I felt rushed during my fitting. I needed a lot of work done on the dress and talked to a seamstress that had a thick accent and we could barely understand each other. When I came back for my second fitting I found so many things wrong with the dress. They removed the hooks that my train attaches to, the design wasn’t centered on my dress, and they added pickups and it was just a hot mess that I cried and just hated it. That’s when I found out it was a different lady that altars the bridal gowns so it’s a game of telephone when you tell them what you want. I went back on a different day to talk to the actual seamstress(who speaks better English) and she fixed all her mistakes and my dress came out perfectly.
The next mishap was when I went to pick up the dress and it wasn’t steamed. They thought I was going to pick it up the evening before my wedding. I clearly told them I would pick it up 2 days before and it was on their calendar, but on my dress receipt it said the day before. I put up a stink and they steamed it there in 15 minutes. Not too fond of the place, but I got my veil for free.

BM Dress: Doris Fashions D+
Before having the girls try on the dresses I had already picked it out and showed it to them online to see if they like it. Then the bargain hunting began. I must have called at least 12 stores until I found Doris in Brooklyn which gave me the lowest price for the dress. My consultant Maria is a doll! She really knew her stuff when it came to measuring and was very helpful. I was impressed that whenever I went to the store or called she remembered who I was and what dresses I ordered and who was measured already. Well everything just went so wrong after ordering! My junior bridesmaid went to pick up her dress and it was never altered. Her seamstress went back to Italy due to a death in the family, but they didn’t give her dress for someone else to work on. She had to wait an hour for it to get fixed. Another BM went to pick up the dress a day before the wedding and her alterations were not completed either. They told her to come back 4 days after my wedding!!!! She had to wait an hour for them to fix her dress. My MOH’s went two weeks before the wedding to get fitted and their dresses were in the wrong color!!! I just about died!!! They said it was too late to order the dress and they would make it themselves. Total meltdown right before my wedding. Thankfully the dresses looked exactly the same and were exactly the same colors that I wanted. That is the only reason I did not give them an F because they fixed that huge mishap, but they never altered any of my girl’s dresses on time. They definitely take on more than they can handle there.

Tuxes: Foresto Tuxedo A+
Dominick took good care of us and made the process of picking a tux painless. They let you try everything on and this guy knows what he’s doing. FIL flew in a week before the wedding and they were able to get him a tux in time without a hassle.

Rings: Zales A+
Getting the e-ring and bands was a piece of cake. Excellent service to help find a band that matched my e-ring.

Plaque: my-sweet-memories.com A+
Channa is easy to work with and so helpful. Before contacting her I spent so much time picking out font and colors but she will give you a few variations so don’t fret. She is fast at showing new proofs and is just a doll to work with. This was one of the easiest checks.
Cinderella Cardbox: 2011 bride A+

Florist: Brian Distinctive Floral A+
Maria is great to work with. She is very enthusiastic and knows a lot about what she is doing. The price that I was given was really good for the amount I was getting. What was a bonus is that they are located across the street from JT. That eased my mind in case there was a problem like a glass breaking it could easily be taken care of. When I went to see my sample I felt that the larger cylinder of my underwater arrangement looked empty so we paid a little more to add more flowers in it. All my flowers looked amazing that day. My ceremony room looked gorgeous and so did my reception room. When I walked in I just burst into tears. My bok lasted quite a few days. Maria really understood my vision and made it come to life.

Officiant: Pastor April A-
When I met with Pastor April it took only minutes for her to start coming up with the ceremony. It was obvious that she is good at what she does because throughout the whole meeting I was just tearing up. I went with the individualized ceremony and don’t regret it one bit. All my guests really loved my ceremony and there was not a dry eye in the room. I will say that April did stress me out in the morning because my lineup to walk down the aisle was not traditional. She didn’t like that and really wanted things her way. I was so frustrated and just didn’t care. She even told my DOC that they should tell brides they can’t always get what they want. It was like seeing a different person on stage and off. It was just weird.

Limos: Camelot A+
Joe was easy to work with. I booked with him at a bridal showcase and he worked within my budget. I got one 10 passenger Lincoln and then a princess Rolls Royce for my exit with a champagne toast. They showed up on time and the cars were extremely clean. The drivers were really nice. Camelot even upgraded my Princess Rolls Royce to a Phantom Rolls Royce for free for being an LIW and JT bride! So sweet of them. My driver at the end of the night got me to the movies in time despite the traffic and I was really thankful for that!

B-pics: Jenerations A+
At first I was not going to do this because I had no confidence in myself and that I could look good in lingerie. Also to have some stranger taking pictures of me just gave me anxiety. When I heard that some 2012 girls were doing a B-party I just couldn’t pass it up because now it made it more affordable. I did the package with two outfits and two scenes. Jen looks over at what outfits you bring and then kind of tells you what to wear and what scenes to do. She also kind of does the same general poses with everyone so if you have something specific you want then make sure that you tell her. I got my makeup and hair done there which was pretty expensive, but I didn’t have time to go to the salon nor do I have any talent to do my own hair and makeup. I loved how they made me up! During the shoot there was no time to be uncomfortable. Everything happens so fast so you just have to get over the nerves and enjoy it. She did such an excellent job and she can really make anyone look like a model. DH loved the pictures and was totally shocked! Jen has become very overpriced and doesn’t let you keep any of your proofs, but her work speaks volumes! If you can afford her then go for it!

Hair and Makeup Mya Cosmetic Artistry A+
First I was only getting my hair done from her until I got rid of my friend who was going to do my makeup. During my hair trial we did 2 hairstyles with on up and half up. I went with all up to go with my fairytale theme. She was so fast and did both in less than an hour. The same for my make up she nailed it on the first try. Despite having tiny eyes she really made my eyes pop. She arrived early the day of and got right down to business. My hair did not move all night and my make up stayed looking flawless. She is truly talented!

Invites: e v e n s t a r p a p e r I e A+
I didn’t know how I wanted my invitations to look like other then the color scheme and a pocketfold. When I saw what Tessa designed I was completely blown away! She was very helpful in telling me what embellishment would make me go way over budget and she did not go near my max budget. The whole process is slow, but I knew that going in. Also sometimes when I email her she doesn’t respond so I would just email her again after 48 hours and that usually resolved the issue. I received my invites before her expected date and got free shipping by winning one of her contests. My guests really loved them and told me they were the best invites they have seen and even wanted to frame it. This was definitely worth the wait!

DOC: Cheeky Glam A++++++++++++++++++++
This was a vendor I was on the fence about getting. I wasn’t sure if I needed a DOC and when I thought about it I realized I didn’t want to burden my BP with anything. My main concern was keeping my mother from ruining my day and to make sure that all my little touches were in place. Upon meeting Jamie and Heather I just loved them and their energy. They are so helpful with everything and are quick to respond to any question. What was a huge plus was that one of them got married at my RH so it was great to get inside tips. Throughout the year I kept them updated on everything and told them when I was stressed and then they would come up with a solution. I would get emails on my countdown and they recommended a travel agent that helped me get a great deal on my honeymoon. When they did the final confirmations with my vendors they fixed any differences which helped me out a lot because I could not get my point across to some of them because I was being “untraditional”. On the day of my vendors contacted Cheeky if they were running late and then they would contact me. It was nice to just have to talk to one vendor.
Seriously I don’t know where I would be without them! They had my must take list and carried all my paperwork with them to make sure everything was perfect. Cheeky steamed everyone, packed up my bag in the morning, applied my lip gloss, hand out tips, keep me calm, and just made sure I was happy with everything. I had them check me into my hotel while I went to the movies. They packed away everything so nicely and knew what to leave in my bridal suite like my purse. They took my dinners and cake and told the hotel to put it in the fridge for me. They decorated my room with my bok, cardbox and plaque. I didn’t even notice that they took my family flowers and gave it to them. Seriously what didn’t they do! My whole bridal party loved them. These girls are fairy godmothers and now I consider them friends. Best decision out of my whole wedding!

Picture Location Garden City Gazebo A+
It is such a great location with no one around and the best part its free. I did my reveal there and it looked amazing. Even though it rained right before I just stayed off the dirt and my dress stayed clean.

Reception Hall/Ceremony: Jericho Terrace A+++
I actually only visited one venue. A few years ago when I was previously engaged I had looked at a ton of places and thought the Villa Barone was the place for me. Then I kept hearing about JT on Z100 and wanted to check it out. When I first arrived I was blown away by how elegant everything looked. I thought it was going to be super expensive and was ready for the ultimate disappointment of not being able to afford it. Luckily I was completely wrong. For the price I was shocked at how many things were included and just the amount of food on the menu was crazy. I was totally blown away by how nice my BM Anthony was. He went over the menu and gave us some samples. The Oak room was not finished when I took my first look and that was the only room available on the date I wanted. Honestly I wasn’t impressed and then when I saw it renovated I cried and couldn’t believe how perfect it was. Since I had a day time wedding it was good that I didn’t have a skylight so I can have that night time feel. With the glass windows and design the room went perfectly with my fairytale theme. I also decided to get married there for convenience to my guests and I just loved the skylight room. Anthony was a pleasure to work with always answering all my questions and helping me out.
My Maitre’D was Jose who I requested after seeing him work at another LIW 2012 bride’s wedding. I explained everything to him about all my details and he just understood everything I wanted. He has such great memory for details. Jose made sure that I got my cake from Dortoni’s and it was perfect with the right flavors and colors. I labeled all my boxes of where everything was to go so there was no miscommunication. He controlled the lights to make it crazy like I wanted and if I needed anything changed he did it himself.
The food was amazing and the melon art was perfect. I had forgot to tell them what I wanted and I swear somehow they read my mind. I wanted dragons on my melons and they actually did it without me telling them to. They must have really gotten to know me! I asked for Pepsi in my bridal suite and they gave that to me without a problem. My bridal attendant Casey was a doll. She would talk to me to keep me calm and I sent her all over the place during cocktail hour to get me food while I sat down and ate. My other attendant David was never around, but then I found out that he was always helping my grandmother in a wheelchair. They put out ramps for her and brought her to a bigger bathroom. JT even gave us a second suite to place DH’s nephews who were too young to be out so they had a room to themselves. JT was really accommodating for everything and they let me use wedding poppers inside for my ceremony. The service there is just above and beyond and I always felt at home.

FH gift – Star trek communicator cuff links Nancyliu on etsy
Grooms gifts:
Mold for ice shot glasses, mighty tyvek wallets of their favorite super heros, and a cooler backpack from theknot.com

BM gifts: The theme for my bridesmaids is the sailor scouts so each girl was assigned a scout. Then I based all their gifts based on their scouts color and that should explain why this looks very untraditional.

OMG EPM was f***ing amazing!!!!!!! It is super safe there!!! As soon as you arrive they give you a cold towel (super hot out there) and champagne and say welcome home. By the end of the trip it felt like home!!!!

You never have to open a door because all the doors are automatic even to the hotel. Make sure you bring a copy of your marriage license so you get the dinner on the beach and couples massage for free. That will save you over 400 bucks! The room is amazing. I had the two story suite. The put petals around my jacuzzi, gave 2 different towel swans, and a heart towel another day and left a special plate of chocolates. You can eat everything in your room at no extra charge and it gets restocked. So they had some soda, beers, chips, candy bars, and oreos.

There is a night time turn down service and they leave you chocolates and fold down the sheets and give you a list of activities for the next day. The resort activities are fun they give prices and sometimes spa certificates. The staff is super friendly. You get service by the pool and at the main pool they actually serve plates of food! There is a cook on the beach that cooks something different every day so you don't have to go far if you are hungry. There are showers everywhere so you can wash off.

They have 8 restaurants! Room service is 24 hours! I ordered everything off the menu. Definitely not better than the restaurants but pretty good!!! I had them deliver to the box all the time so we weren't disturbed. You can get wake up calls and have breakfast delivered. The water was really nice and the beach did not have a lot of seaweed. The spa was amazing!!! The hydrotherapy was intense. Alot of hot and cold, but so worth it. Best massages ever!!!
All inclusive is the way to go and at Excellence they live up to their name.
