Our Beautiful Budget Friendly 5-3-08 Wedding-Mediterranean Manor, Taylor Studios, Perfect Parties, Moda Alterations, Ray's Tuxedos, Clear Choice Limo, Flower Shoppe,Floral Designs of Patchogue

I am sooo incredibly happy with how our wedding day turned out! It was truly the most amazing and perfect day of our lives! I have to let you all know that if any of you are on a very tight budget, like DH & I were….don’t EVER get discouraged b/c it can all be done perfectly without a lot of money. Since our main priority was saving our money for a house, we really wanted to shop around for the right prices and of course still get great results in return. Well it all worked, and like I said everything was perfect. We had only 86 guests at our reception, but they were our family members and only our most closest friends. We also did not have a big bridal party. We had just a BM (dh’s best friend), MOH (my sister), & RB (my nephew) and this was so important to us b/c they are 3 people that mean the world to us! I’m sure no one will believe me when I’m about to tell you that we kept our total budget way under $12,000 and this included every single thing down to our wedding bands and honeymoon as well! Please don’t ever live by the saying “you get what you pay for” b/c it is totally not the case. Just because you keep things “cheap” does not mean in any way that the outcome will look, feel, taste, anything “cheap”!

Well here it goes…enjoy and feel free to FM me with any questions AT ALL!.....

LIWEDDINGS – A+++++++ Thank you to everyone on here for all of your help, advice, suggestions, etc. I couldn’t have done it without you!! A special thank you to “bride2b92006” for her ring bearer pillow – you are such a sweetheart and I’m so happy to have met you!!! Also a special thank you to “curiousgeorge” for her amazing recommendation of a photographer!

BRIDAL SHOWER – SHACKLETON’S (Franklin Square) A++++
It is always a perfect experience at this restaurant. We have used them for many years for numerous amounts of occasions. Patti & John there are absolutely wonderful to deal with and the food and service are amazing! I highly recommend the restaurant for anything! Much love and thanks to my mom & sister who threw the party and did an excellent job in surprising me!!

INVITATIONS - SANDY’S PARTY SUPPLY (Franklin Square) A++++
I worked with Mary and she was absolutely amazing! Did an excellent job proofing everything and had great ideas. They also had a large selection of invitations to choose from…..needless to say I found the perfect ones!

MAKEUP – MYSELF & MY SISTER A++++
This was one of the many best decisions I made. I’m not really big on a lot of makeup and I was afraid to have too much to my liking if I had anyone else do it. I wanted a real natural look. Of course doing it ourselves was another big money-saver. I think we did a great job together. We had also done each other’s makeup for my sister’s wedding which was in 2000, and if I do say so myself, we did an excellent job both times!

My makeup:

My sister’s makeup:

HAIR – BY ANNIE (Garden City) A++++
My sister and I both got our hair done by our hair stylist that we have used for many, many years. Annie originally worked way back when at “City Scenes” that use to be in Franklin Square. Eventually she ended up working out of her home which was in Franklin Square, and she then moved a few years ago to Garden City, which is where she works out of her home still. She does amazing work and she is such a sweetheart! We have followed her around for many years and she is also a very dear friend of ours too.

WEDDING BANDS – DIAMOND EDGE (Tri-County, Levittown) A++++
We wanted to try and get matching bands, since DH is not a big jewelry person and he and I both wanted the simpler look. When we went to look around, DH spotted a band he really liked and it turned out the matching women’s band matched my e-ring perfectly! I love the look of them and one of the best parts is that they are “comfort-fit” and DH absolutely loves the fact that he hardly feels it on his finger since he hates jewelry lol.

MY DRESS & BM DRESS – DAVID’S BRIDAL (Westbury) B+
I shopped at quite a few different places before I went to Davids b/c I knew it was just absolute craziness there at times. I wanted a simple, yet elegant dress. I didn’t want “poofy” or anything to much on sequins embroidery, etc. My sister felt the same way, and I knew I wanted the “pool” type color blue, and a t-length dress for her. I wanted her to be comfortable and look gorgeous too! I obviously did end up finding my dress at Davids and I fell in love from the moment I tried it on. It was everything I wanted and it was the most comfortable dress EVER. I told my sister that all I wanted was blue and t-length and from that point she could get whatever she wanted. She looked around and fell in love with her dress right away too. As for the help at Davids it was okay. Most of the time we helped ourselves and my mom and sister helped me look for dresses too. Even though I made appointments it was still just madness there most of the time. Not to mention I started with one assistant and when I went back another time I had to get a different one. I did not do alterations there, since I had a place locally that was much more affordable and I knew she did excellent work.

My dress:

MY ALTERATIONS – MODA ALTERATIONS (Franklin Square) A++++
As I mentioned before, I knew of a local place to get my alterations done. Friends of mine have uses Agnes at Moda many times before and she does excellent work and she is such a pleasure to work with! Her prices are great and the turn-around time is fast as well. Her place is very small, but she has been there for many years and has a great business. She had to do the hem on my dress, tighten the halter neck, and my bustle. I absolutely LOVE the way she did my bustle. I would recommend her to anyone and I guarantee they won’t be disappointed!

Pics of bustle:

MY SHOES – SANDY’S SHOES (Massapequa) A+
This was a pretty simple process….I was actually in and out in about 10 minutes! Again I wanted something simple, so I could make use of them again and my sister went to this place in the past and I loved what they had to choose from, and the prices are pretty average too. I ended up getting the “lovely” shoe.

TIARRA – BARRON’S (Tri-County, Levittown) A++++
I got my tiara from Barron’s at Tri-County flea market in Levittown NY. The guy and woman there were both very helpful, and VERY affordable prices!

VEIL – I just wanted a plain veil, since my dress was pretty simple. I didn’t want to take away from the little detail that was on my dress and I didn’t want a long veil, b/c I absolutely loved the back of my dress and didn’t want to cover it up. One of my best friends since elementary school had just got married the year before me and insisted that I use her veil as my “borrowed” item and of course I was so delighted and honored to. ? It was just was I was looking for!

TUXEDOS – RAY’S TUXEDOS (Franklin Square) A++++
A friend of mine had used this place for her wedding and I remember our high school always using them for proms, graduations, etc. They were amazing here and a ton of help to DH and his best man. They were great with my nephew; especially when he had a melt down one day lol. Their prices are great, and the quality of their tuxes, shoes, attire, etc was great and it was an overall pleasure to deal with everyone there.

MOB DRESS – JC PENNEY’S (Garden City) A++++
Most importantly I wanted my mom to be comfortable and not spend a ton of money. We looked at many different places, including Estelles and she just couldn’t find anything she was too thrilled about. We were at Penney’s one night and figured we’d look around and she ended up finding an absolutely beautiful dress and she looked absolutely gorgeous in it! She was sooooo happy with her dress and she’s even more excited that it didn’t cost much and she can definitely get away with wearing it again sometime!

MOTHER NATURE - A++++
We were blessed with such beautiful weather. Although the sun was not shinning all day long, it turned out perfectly b/c the sun was in and out all day and it gave us that cool breeze where I don’t believe I broke a sweat once all day and I certainly was not cold!! It was truly perfect especially for the pictures b/c there was no squinting, or roasting in the sun!

CHURCH – ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH (Stewart Manor) A++++++++++++++++++++++
DH is Catholic but not really a member of a particular church and he doesn’t attend church on a regular basis. I am Lutheran, and grew up having a HUGE involvement in my church and many church activities, volunteering, etc. To DH it did not matter where we held our ceremony, but to me it was very important to get married in a church and especially a Lutheran church. Being that our original plans were to get married in the Hamptons, and then that fell through (see below for more explanation); when I went to my church to see if our date was available, they were already booked with another event. I was very upset that I could not get married in the church where I grew up in, but I also live by the saying, “everything happens for a reason”.
We ended up going to a small Lutheran church a few blocks from where we live. It was a small church in a quiet little residential area and it just looked like the perfect size for what we wanted. Well from the first time we walked in, we fell in love. It was perfect. We met with Pastor John there and we sat with him and talked for hours. We got to know each other and learned more about our relationship. It was the most touching, spiritual and emotional moment between the 3 of us that night. We felt so comfortable with Pastor John and it was like we knew him forever. Pastor John introduced us to the organist and she helped us pick all of our ceremony music too. Pastor John also made us programs and had gorgeous flowers delivered for the altar for our wedding day!
Our ceremony was absolutely perfect and Pastor John was amazing. His sermon touched everyone’s heart and it left everyone with happy tears. I still continue to hear from all of our family and friends on what a great service it was and how Pastor John left such a remarkable memory for everyone. To this day I still attend his services whenever I can.

PARK FOR PICTURES IN BETWEEN CEREMONY & RECEPTION – (Garden City) A++++++
We went to the gazebo in Garden City on Stewart Avenue, next to Village Hall. It’s right behind the Garden City Hotel and the grounds are gorgeous! It was a perfect time of the year where they had all yellow and red tulips on the grounds and it was soooooo pretty! Our pictures came out great there and best of all, you can just show up and you don’t need a permit and there is no fee. There are occasionally other brides there throughout the year, but no one ever spends that much time there and there’s plenty of room to work around each other. We were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves though!

RECEPTION – MEDITERRANEAN MANOR (Patchogue) A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I will start by saying how I still to this day get endless amounts of compliments from all of our family and friends on how we made an excellent choice on our reception hall. Everyone raves about what great food and service they had and how beautiful place was…and how perfect it was. There were maybe only a handful of people that never heard of the place before and now everyone that was there can’t forget the place and said they would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone!
Finding and choosing Mediterranean Manor (MM) was an absolute dream come true. We had a bit of a long road during planning our wedding. Way back when we first started looking into different places and ideas for our wedding, we were going to check out MM and never actually went there b/c we had decided we wanted to do the “different” Hamptons type wedding. Our original plans were where we rented a very large house in the Hamptons and we were going to have an extravagant bbq and pool party type reception. More on the casual side. Well, I will not go into detail b/c of a very long story, but it ended up not working out. At that time, it was mid-January and we then had about 3 months to plan our whole wedding again b/c we wanted to keep our vendors and just change the location. We actually had a bit less then that since we had to get our invitations out! This is where I say once again “everything happens for a reason”
So, we decided to go over to MM and meet with Zoli & George. THEY ARE BOTH AMAZING!!! They were such a HUGE help and I felt so at ease with them in control. We knew we had not one thing to worry about. We fell in love with MM right away, and after what Zoli & George offered us, we fell in love even more. We ended up going to one of their bridal showcases and that is when we signed the deal, b/c everything was just perfect. The food, the staff, the atmosphere, etc. MM has certain all-inclusive type “packages”, but we did only a partial “package” deal, since we had most of our vendors already. We used their limo company and their flower company for the centerpieces (which were included). Zoli & George not only provided an amazingly delicious wedding cake, but also a chocolate fountain, ice cream bar & cordial bar. Every single bit of food was OUT OF THIS WORLD and the presentation of it was INCREDIBLE. Everyone was offered seconds, and our MD and bridal attendant packed up a ton of food for us to take home with us! As said before, there was not one complaint and everyone was so amazed by the whole day.
I can go on forever about MM, but most importantly they made our day truly perfect in every way!! Lastly I’d like to point out that just b/c they are much more affordable then many other places, does not mean that their results will reflect a “cheap” look. Everything about them was just as great as other much more expensive halls that I’ve been too and you’d never know the difference in price that a person paid!

LIMO – CLEAR CHOICE LIMOS (Huntington) A+
We didn’t really do too much one-on-one dealing with Clear Choice, since it was set up through MM. Terri, our driver was excellent. She was a lot of fun, a great big help and got us everywhere on time. Most importantly, she showed up nice and early with a very clean and well stocked Chevy Suburban.

PHOTOGRAPHY – TAYLOR STUDIOS-MARK STEVENS (Smithtown) A+++++++++++++++++
I have to once again thank a fellow LIW bride, “curiousgeorge” for recommending Mark to me. He was absolutely amazing!!! I don’t know where to begin, but I’ll start by saying he’s got such a great personality and he was a true pleasure to deal with on our special day. I received so many compliments on Mark and how he interacted with everyone so well, and how his photography skills were out of this world! We had decided from the very beginning that there was no way we wanted to spend thousands of dollars on a photographer, when we just wanted someone half the day. We wanted just the major parts of the day covered professionally and then when it came time to dance, party and spend time with our friends and family, we didn’t want to be bothered with pictures and just wanted to enjoy our day to the fullest! Mark started his day at my mom’s house. Since my sister and I went elsewhere to get our hair done, and since we did our makeup very early in the morning, we had no need for Mark to be there for the “getting ready shots”. He got there earlier then expected and got really nice pictures of the outside of my mom’s house. My mom and aunt put so much hard work into decorating the house and the gardening and everything. Mark got great shots of me, then pictures with my sister and mom. He then met up with DH and his BM at the church and got great pictures of them and the church and all. Of course then there was the ceremony and pictures in and outside the church. Many, many great shots and it’s so hard to choose from them to make an album!!! We then went to the park, where we all had such a great time with Mark and were laughing constantly. Mark even had DH & I start dancing in the park, where he took some more great photos. His ideas were just endless. Lastly, while at the hall, Mark made his rounds during cocktail hour and the reception. He managed to get every single person in at least one or two pictures. Mark stayed until about 3:30 pm (which our reception was going until 6pm) so we then had about two hours to party our butts off and not have to worry about picture taking. (not to mention, friends and family got some really great pictures the rest of the night too) Mark did just an absolutely amazing job and we are so happy with his work. We got all the pictures we wanted and more. I had given Mark a list of must-take photos and he had the list with him that day and made sure they were all completed. Mark works with all different types of packages and will make one to fit your needs. His prices are unbeatable; especially for the work that he does. Our proofs and internet viewing were ready in 2 weeks after our wedding too! Our package included the half day shoot of unlimited picture taking, all paper proofs (no water-marks), $100 credit toward final prints, free internet viewing for you and all your guests, a $10 credit to all guests that viewed our pictures online, all of our thank-yous, and a dvd with all high resolution photos and full rights…..no copyrights, etc. (this was very important to us and was one thing I stressed with all photographers and if they didn’t give the option, I moved on). We were not interested in including an album in our package, but we are able to go back at any time to get that done if we change our mind. But of course that is where one of the many benefits come in to having all your digital photos on a disk – you can have them printed, made into an album, etc at any time.
So if you’re looking for a photographer, with a great personality, that produces amazing work, and is not too hard on your wallet, I HIGHLY recommend Mark and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!!
Some of the pictures I already posted in the review were by Mark, and some of our pro-pics are in my album, but here a few more shots that I love!

FLORIST – FLOWER SHOPPE (Franklin Square) A++++
This vendor was another local place to us that we’ve used in the past. It was also right next door to the tuxedo place. A friend of mine used Flower Shoppe for her wedding and their work was beautiful. My whole family has been using them for many years as well, for numerous types of occasions. They are very affordable and very helpful with different ideas. I was very pleased with my bouquet and my sister’s bouquet; however I was a little unhappy with the boutonnieres. They were really not a huge concern to us, but since I was expecting something different, it was just a little disappointing. The flowers were gorgeous, but the green leaves on each boutonniere were fake! I didn’t see why they did that, but if anything I would’ve rather there be no greenery at all then. Since to us this was nothing that major, I’m still giving them a great review b/c that is something that can be easily corrected.

My bouquet:

FLORIST – FLORAL DESIGNS OF PATCHOGUE A++++
This florist was part of our package with MM. They did all of our centerpieces and what an absolutely beautiful job they did! I told them what colors I wanted and just something simple, and they did it perfectly! The only reason we didn’t use them for our bouquets was b/c they were so far away from our house and church that it was silly to pay the extra delivery charge when we just decided to stick with our original vendor nearby.

DJ – PERFECT PARTIES (Bohemia) A++++
All I can say is this company is absolutely amazing! Chris (the owner) was our MC and he did such a fantastic job. His announcements were great and he had such a great personality. He played music that suited everyone there. Even the background music he played during the cocktail hour was perfect. Our guests absolutely loved him! He had everyone dancing and having a great time on the dance floor. We didn't give him a play list and he was able to read the crowd and pick music that suited all age groups there. He gladly accepted requests as well! DH absolutely HATES dancing and I told Chris from the beginning that if he could get DH to dance, I would love him forever! Lol Well DH danced all day/night long and did not stop!! Chris was awesome with getting everyone involved and into the whole party! No complaints whatsoever and I would totally use them again for other parties!

DIY – MEMORY CANDLES
It was extremely important to us to have something to remember our loved ones that passed on. My dad and grandfather and DH’s mom and grandmother. I purchased all the materials from AC Moore & Michaels and made my own memory candles, which we had lit the whole day next to our dais. I was pretty impressed with how they came out and all of our guests were so touched by it. Everyone acknowledged the table and took a moment to reflect upon how much we missed them, and knew that they were watching above and having a great time as well. We missed them dearly but DH & I laughed about how we were sure they were all dancing together up in heaven.

HONEYMOON – VEGAS BABY!!!! A+++++++++++++++++++
As mentioned before, we preferred saving our money to put toward our house. We have been on many all-inclusive island vacations in the past. We’ve been to Vegas quite a few times and can never get enough of it…..to us, nothing else compares. There is always something new to do and you never run out of entertainment. DH is not big on the beach and I wanted us both to enjoy our honeymoon in every way possible. Vegas is our ultimate favorite vacationing spot and we always get treated like royalty when we go! We get comp’d on just about everything from accommodations, to food and shows. The airfare is cheap and we always rent a car when we go, so we can travel to wherever we’d like. What can bet better than that! Sure we love to gamble, but we knew our limits and planned to do more “touristy” things this time around…..and so we did.
We had an amazing time as always and pretty much broke even on the little bit of gambling that we did. We had a suite at our favorite hotel….the Luxor, and saw several of our favorite shows. We ate our hearts out as usual, and best of all this time we decided to hit just about every single casino possible and collect a dollar chip from each one of them. We even included some of the local oldies that in the downtown area. We ended up getting 60 chips and we had them matted and framed so we could remember our perfect honeymoon in Vegas!

Well there it is!! Hopefully I didn’t leave anything out. But if anyone has any questions, please feel free to FM me and I will be more than happy to help and give anymore information that I can! I hope this has been helpful to brides and has given a better perspective to planning. I know how stressful it can be, but please do not let it get to you and most importantly have fun planning your wedding…do not get discouraged!!! Good luck to you all and PLEASE remember, when you're stressing about money or any part of the process, there’s always a solution and it's all worth it in the end because you’ll have a lifetime of beautiful memories to look back on!

Yes it is true! At first I never thought it could be done either, but now I can't stop encouraging other brides that it absolutely can!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind words! You are too sweet
