Picking out date
So I'm new to all of this, but have read some great advice on here already. We just got engaged yesterday night but we knew that it was coming for a while so we've been discussing it for a while. I had always dreamed of a spring or summer wedding, but for cost and timing reasons were leaning for for the winter, aside from that is what my fiancé has wanted all along. We went and looked at 2 places today and December 29th has been thrown around, but do you think that is too close to Christmas? I was hoping more for December 1st or 2nd, but the price pp is 20 cheaper for the later date, or just wait for January 2013 but I'm afraid of it snowing because I really want to be able to take pictures outside. Its only day one of all of this and I already feel so confused and overwhelmed.

Re: Picking out date
The 29th is pretty close...I think you'll be risking a lot of people being unable to attend-- they could be away for the holidays or any out-of-towners might skip it after an expensive holiday season.Remember, you can cut costs by having an early wedding-brunch or lunch, or by picking a Sunday date.

Re: Picking out date
That's a good point. I mean I'm not so concerned with getting less gifts but I do want people to actually show up! Haha. I think we might push it back a bit so we have more time to save. Maybe March, although I have always wanted October 25, which happens to be a Friday in 2013. It was my grandma and grandpas (they were also my Godparents) wedding anniversary and they were happily married for 50 years. I personally like the fall weather better then the winter. Only problem is if my fiance's brother books in November 2013 first I don't want to rain on their parade.

Re: Picking out date
Usually prices go up during the May - Oct months. Maybe try seeing into late Feb, early March of 2013? Your chances are usually pretty good for nice weather for outdoor pictures (If it's anything like this year, you'll have amazing weather).Like you, I wanted a spring wedding but had a winter budget. After seeing a few halls and explaining my desire to have an beautiful spring wedding, the hall I choose gave me the last Friday in April in my price range. The day of, it was 65 and sunny! I couldn't have asked for any better weather. Plus, the flowers were in full bloom by that point, so it worked out great.
Definitely look around and see who works with you.
Good luck
