Honestly i am not too familiar with St Markellas if you tell me where it is located maybe i can picture which one it is. I also dont know much about the old calendar and what not.

ST D's is a nice church and we considered it but because it is in Astoria it seems to be a little out of the way for us.

Honestly i understand it is important to your husband to get married there and the whole mom thing always gets in the way because of course she wants you to get married at ST Ds. I would go with the one that is easier to park at (since Astoria stinks with parking) and has a nicer outside for picture purposes lol.

i do know that ST Markella's does follow the old calandar and they are not recognized byt the Greek Archdiocese... no although your political marriage will be recognized int eh Greek church it will not be.
St Dee's in Astria is really nice. if i had the choice i would go there rather than St. Markella's.
Im getting married at St Nick's in Flushing.
Its the closest to my house so whatever.
Need help with anything else???

I am a Greek Bride What about St. Irene's or St. Catherine in Ditmar's. St. Nicholas is very nice, but I love St. Catherine's. If we were able to get married in a Greek Church St. Catherines or St. Nick's would be my 2 choices.

St Nicks in Flushing is really nice also, that is close to my house, St Irenes and St Catherines are nice also. But I would go with St D's

Also, I have gone to St. Nicholas in Flushing all my life-- but am getting married at a church I have never been inside! Have any of you been to the newGreek church in Brookville? Its called The Church of the Holy Resurrection. I am curious what it is like inside!

No I have never been or heard of that church. The only church I have been to in LI is St Pauls in Garden City.

I went to the Church of the Holy Resurrection in January for a baptism. It's very pretty inside. However, they don't have pews yet--they had folding chairs set up.

I'm marrying a Greek...well actually he's half. I want to play Greek music at the wedding so I'm def interested in what you girls think. We've booked a Greek DJ whom I love! I'm going to need some pointers for the traditional dancing.

FH is Greek! We are definitly having plenty of Greek dishes at the cocktail hour and even during the meal. And I love all the Greek dancing that goes on at other parties so I definitly want that too!

I am most likely going with Zoodohous Pigis or however you spell it. My church would normall be St Nicks in Flushing but i had an issue with the lady who books the weddings and fh and i got a little disgusted. Seemed like they were more concerned with making sure i pay them the $425.00 membership this yr and next yr eventhough this yr i paid the membership at a different church. She basically told me if i dont pay it this yr and a member comes along and they want my date and time then they automatically get it and i lose it. This can go on till Dec 31, 2007. I dont need the headache of worrying that that will happen.

She didnt even say we will take the difference of what you already paid and deduct it. I dont see the point in me having to pay it twice to ensure i get the date and i told her if this is all one big greek community then it shouldnt matter which church i paid. Then she went on to give me the speech that the 425 pays for con ed and so on.

I felt like telling her so if i was poor i cant get married here.

We then looked at St D in Astoria and St Catherines and they are both nice but parking in Astoria stinks and since FH is from the BX and the church is 2 min from his house we figured it would just be easier to do it there.

Mind you no other church i went to gave me the issue that the lady at St Nicks did. Basically every other church said its fine i just have to become a member with them in 2008 which makes sense.
