Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

We only stayed the one night in Tahiti because, our travel agent, as well as everyone that had already been there, told us it was not worth it to stay there. Since I did not stay I don't have a comparison.

However, I can tell you that you don't really need to unpack for the one night. Keep what you will need on the top of your luggage and it won't be such a bother.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

our travel agent as well suggested only staying in Papeete (tahiti) for one night. There is nothing much to do there but go to the marketplace.. That only takes a couple of hours to do.
We arrived in papeete around 11:30 pm- got to our hotel around 1. woke up about 7am and were on the flight to moorea by 10.

Moores IS THAT MUCH better than Papeete.
Good luck!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

OK, we'll go to Moorea.

Which do you think is a better hotel? Sofitel or Sheraton?

The Sheraton is considered the best one in all the travel books but the Sofitel was just renovated and the pics of the rooms look better.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

I recommend the Moorea Pearl...Sheraton is rated high but I read a review from a LIW bride that she didn't like it that much...I'll try to find it and post it for you...

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

DO NOT STAY AT THE SOFITIEL.
i dont care waht they did to renovate it, i was there - we met a couple who stayed there, and it smelled like mildew. didnt compare to the sheraton or the pearl

we stayed at the pearl- it was closest to the airport, and the food was delcious. It was also more 'tahitian' than the sheraton- we went to the sheraton, dh had his tatoo there.

either the sheraton or the pearl is a good choice.. also the Intercontinental- but that is all the way on the other side of the island..

hope to help.

The Intercontinentals are also very nice - we stayed at them in Tahiti and Moorea and thought they were great.

yes- the intercontinental on moorea was very nice- we went there to for a drink..

on bora bora, we would recommend the ic thalasso over the ic bora bora.. the ic thalasso is on the motu whereas the ic bora bora is on the main island of bora bora.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

we are staying in tahiti for three nights and we are doing a day trip to moorea while we are in tahiti.

i think tahiti is very underated. alot of people treat it like a stopover place without really getting a chance to experience it!

if we werent doing le tahaa though, we would def. stay in moorea a few days. but instead we will visit for a day...

moorea is very easy to get to from tahiti...

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

We just got back from our Tahiti Honeymoon.

It was great!
I will Write my Review Soon....

If any one has questions about the Hotels, I will try my best to answer them.

Here are a list of hotels we stayed at:

Tahiti - intercontinental
It was absolutely gorgeous. We could have stayed there for two Weeks.

Moore- Sheraton Had the Best snorkeling right from our OWB. We even had a claw foot tub in our room.

Bora Bora- Sofitel
.....Lets Just say it wasn't my favorite place. We refer to it as the Stuffy-tel.

Tahiti - Radison Amazing Black Sand Beach and
we could hear the huge waves
Crashing on the shore from our
room.

Originally we were booked at the Pearl in Moorea....but Do to a strike....We Got moved to the Sheraton.....It Was the best thing that could have happened. We had unbelievable snorkeling and a better view!

I will try and post Pictures soon.

When we arrived in Moorea....We Met up with a Woman....Who Said , you come with me...you are at the Sheraton now. But we said wait....we are supposed to go to the Pearl . She said not anymore...Pearl is on Strike...You are to go to the Sheraton. We were quite upset at that point... Because we spend a lot of time picking out the hotels....and to be switched without be contacted. Bothered us a little. Sheraton ended up being a very nice hotel....but they were doing construction on a few of the buildings....So We heard a lot of hammering. We had met up with a couple who were staying at the pearl before they went on strike...and they said once they went on strike they weren't getting very good service. And they were glad that they were about to switch to the Sheraton.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

No Jenny. You should not worry about the Hotels Striking. When we were there, 3 hotels had been on Strike. The Sofitel in Tahiti, Pearl in Moorea, and The Sofitel in Bora Bora. Unfortunately it was 2 of our hotels that went on strike... But we were lucky with Bora Bora it had just finished the strike just before we got there.
(but as I said before, we weren't fond of the Softel in Bora Bora.)

No we didn't have to pay anything extra for the Room...and We actually got upgraded to a better Room.

No we didn't know anything until we arrived on each Island. Not sure Who should have told us?
Maybe someone could Answer this Question for me? Who should have told us about the strike?
Travel Agent? Or should a Representative from the striking hotel tell us of their Problems at the Hotel?

Don't worry about the Honeymoon....It Will be perfect. We just had a few bumps, that's all!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

There is a website with a forum where you can get info on Tahiti. The people on it were actually discussing the strike and warning travelers.

Check it out

once on the website, click on 'FAQ and advice' to get to the forum.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!

A tour guide told us that if a Worker had worked for a hotel for 1 year they would get a month bonus...and some of the Hotel's were not Paying them .

Not sure if that was really true....we had asked other people and we couldn't get anyone to confirm that story!

For the Record....We really did have a good time....I do not want anyone to think that we didn't have a good time! It was truly our dream Honeymoon with just a few bumps... I luckly made it thru our wedding day with out one problem....i feel that we were due.
