Greek Groom, Italian Bride.....We are getting married in a GO Church....any ideas on how to include the exchanging of Vows into the ceremony? I have an appointment with the church next week....but i'm curious if anyone had a catholic priest exchange vows....or what. I feel like I've always dreamt of saying the traditional vows at my wedding and i know greeks dont do that. Any suggestions!??!??!

I believe you can have the koumbaro be the best man, or you can have someone else be the best man. However, the koumbaro must be Greek Orthodox.
You do not need both a koumbara and koumbaro.

I was thinking of asking the greek priest this question, but I won't be meeting with him until next year. Let me know if you find out any information.
TIA!

Re: Greek Brides Thread
I am having my Catholic priest come in and do the blessing. We are getting married at St. Paul's Cathedral (greek church) and the priest there is very liberal. He is allowing my priest to come. The vows are not allowed....they will interfere with the Orthodox ceremony, only the blessing is allowed....
You have to check with the church because certain churches don't even allow the blessing...

Re: Greek Brides Thread
So this past weekend my FH and I went to meet the priest at holy trinity in new rochelle. I LOVE HIM!!! he is awesome and VERY liberal!!! He told us that we could exchange the traditional vows...and that I could bring a catholic priest to do a blessing. I was worried that he was going to make me promise to raise my children GO...but he told us not to listen to what anyone says and to do whatever we want and feel comfortable doing!!! What a relief! the actual ceremony is like 35 minutes and it can all be done in english The church is small and cute. I'm so happy!!

Re: Greek Brides Thread
Hi...I'm not a greek bride but I'm getting but my fiance is GO and we're getting married at St. Paraskevi. My question is when I search for it on the internet it says it is called 'St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Shrine Church' so that is what I put on the draft of the invites. Now everyone I've showed it to (incl. my mom and fiance) thinks that looks weird and since they've never heard it that way, they think I should remove the word shrine. What did you ladies who got married there put on your invitations? Thanks so much for helping me out

Re: Greek Brides Thread
Hi,I think you should take out the word 'shrine'. I'm not getting married there, but I've had a couple of cousins get married there, and they defintely didn't include the word Shrine. It's a GO church, so you can leave it like that.
Good luck to you!
Maria
