Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I went to Crest Hollow in 2006 for a wedding - and I'm having my wedding there as well...

The ceremony grounds are pretty, although if anyone gets to see the indoors ceremony room its gorgeous - I can't decide which one to do yet...

I thought the cocktail hour was good, my only complaint was that there wasn't enough seating for everyone. I had to stand and eat which was a little hard for someone as clumsy as me.

Otherwise everything else was gorgeous, the food was delicious and the room was beautiful.

Now I'm just crossing my fingers for my own wedding...

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I love this THREAD!!!!!! Keep 'em coming!

I will contribute.

Thatched Cottage- Just went to a wedding there a few weeks ago. pulling up in the dark.. the front of it didn't look like much.. but the inside was GORGEUOs... and the grounds looked beautiful from what I could see in the dark. I loved that the cocktail hour was downstairs and had soooo much room even with a lot of guests... it was a chilly night but the doors were open and we could walk outside.... and then the main reception hall was very nice..... the dance flooor seemed to be a bit crowded at times.....however, the food was AMAZING... CH and Dinner... and... the service was the BEST I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME!!!!!!!! My drink was refilled everytime I sat down.. and I wasn't one of the 'HEAD TABLES' they took your drink order with your dinner order and just kept refilling for ya.... they offered 'seconds' which no one really took, but it was a nice offer........ the whole thing was gorgeous...
I give it an A!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Fox Hollow- Saturday night in October 2007

I went to a wedding reception at Fox Hollow about three weeks ago on a Saturday night. The CH food was plenty and pretty good, but the cold dishes were warm (above room temperature) and the hot dishes like the carving station were lukewarm at best.
Someone had spilled food and drink on the CH room floor and nobody wiped it up and a few people (inlcuding myself) almost slipped and fell on the floor. Also the CD playing for CH music kept skipping and was getting annoying.

The dinner had nice choices and FH got the duck (which he said was dry) and I had the beef but I felt that was dry and chewy even with the ton of gravy they put on it. The only good thing on the plate was the string beans and the mashed potatoes. Most people at our table didn't finish their dinners. Even the dinner rolls were hard as rocks and very hard to bite and chew. I didn't eat mine after trying to take one bite w/butter on it.

The wedding cake was very good and drinks were plentyful.

Despite everything I did like the atmosphere and the wait staff were courteous.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I've been to a few weddings this year.

The Riviera (Brooklyn)
It was one of my top choices for our wedding, however they didn't have our dates available. We went to a wedding in August of this year. I was a little disappointed with the food, considering they promised they tables to be overflowing when WE went to discuss our wedding. The garden is soooo gorgeous. They had an afternoon ceremony, which was nice...but the garden is sooo beautiful at night with the lights.

Chateau Briand
Beautiful hall. So much food. I loveeeed the food at CH. Ceremony room and RH was nice. Didn't leave such a lasting impression, but was very nice.

Two more weddings to come soon....(Jericho Terrace and Manhattan Beach Jewish Center).

Anyone who has been to a Crest Hollow wedding as a guest in the past few months? I've read a lot of comments from a few years ago, I was wondering if any of the negative comments have been addressed at the hall.

went to my cousins wedding this past July. i had been there before though - both were day weddings. it was hot hot hot in july - ceremony was outdoors but CH was inside. i agree, there weren't enough seats, but i havent found any wedding i've atteneded where everyone got a seat. i really like crest hollows cocktail hour. the previous wedding i attended, the cocktail hour was by the pool - really nice. for the july wedding, they didn't turn on the AC in the CH room either but my cousins family was busy taking pictures so they didn't realize until they walked in towards the end. but they would have complained if they had been there earlier. food was pretty good - did not like the look of the cake, but the haagen daaz sundae made up for it. i like crest hollow and am not bothered by the multiple weddings they have there. the one thing i do not like about CH is the rolling bartenders. sometimes they place themselves right between 2 tables and they are practially mixing drinks over your head.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

CAPTAIN BILL'S
i went to a wedding a few years ago--maybe in the summer of 04--at captain bills. i really loved the bayhouse. the bride came down the most beautiful spiral staircase when they were announced. they had rainy weather, so the ch was a little cramped since everyone wanted to be under the canopy, and i don't really remember the food. she had a crab cake appetizer that is seriously one of the best crab cakes i've ever had. i remember everyone having a really good time and plenty of space to dance/ mingle (about 200 people). I went to an afternoon wedding there the following summer on a beautiful day, and the ch definitely felt more comfortable, though i had the same experience as other people with lack of seating. the dining room was just as beautiful in the day time.

BRENTWOOD COUNTRY CLUB
I went to a wedding there June before last. the bride and groom were very satisfied with everything, which is an even bigger compliment for BCC since they used house vendors that were included in the wedding package (dj, video, cake, & photographer at the least). i know they got a great price. as a guest, i was really impressed with the ch. it was outside, and there was so much delicious food! i didn't have any complaints about the service, and i don't remember having to wait for drinks. i did a lot of dancing, and most guests said they had a really good time. i had the prime rib--it was okay, maybe a little bland.

SWAN CLUB
i didn't actually go to a wedding here. it was fh's company's holiday party. being that i was among total strangers, i def did not have as good a time as i would at a friend's or family member's wedding just bc of the circumstances. i was also there at night in december and did not get to see the grounds, which i hear are exquisite. the ch hour seemed a little weird to me because it was on this sun porch kind of room off to the side and it was FREEZING. i remember the chairs being kind of hard and feeling generally uncomfortable. the spread @ the ch was small, but the food was good. during the party in the dining room, they had the air conditioning vents blowing frigid air onto us. after suffering through this for 20 minutes, i went up to the desk to let them know (and i really tried to be polite) and the hostess sighed at me and barked 'okay, thanks!' the vent continued to blow cold air for the rest of the evening. the meal was cold and bland. it was easy to get a drink (no long lines), and our waiters were courteous. i think it would have been a much better experience if i had been there during the summer when it would have been warmer and i could have seen the grounds during daylight. i've heard of a lot of girls having beautiful weddings there, but this was my experience.

ETA: I almost forgot, a venue i think is wildly underestimated...

VILLAGE OF SHOREHAM HALL @ SOUND BEACH
i never even knew this place existed until my mother's friend invited us to her wedding there. Shoreham Village apparently owns this venue that's perched on a bluff overlooking sound beach with steps that lead right down to the sand. fh & i hung out on the lifeguard chair for awhile and it was AMAZING. I believe lessings is one of the house caterers there, and there is a site fee for the village. the cocktail hour is held on their white wrap-around deck looking out at the sound. the food was good, and it was easy to get drinks. she also rented a hot dog cart and a snow cone machine for the kids, which was so cute. the ceremony was held in their gazebo (the sun was hot and bright, but it was july after all) i can't remember anything about the service, which means it was good we had a really great time.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I went to a wedding this year at Jericho Terrace.Let me start by saying the place was beautiful and staff was wonderful. The cocktail hour was good, the food was delicious. But when it came time for the reception the food was cold and wasn't that great at all. It was a big wedding party maybe they couldn't keep everything hot but that was a disappointment to me!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Ok First question...Is this the longest runnning thread? I don't think I've ever seen one that has sooooo many pages!

Down to business:

Atlantis Marine World: It's beautiful and different. CH was outside, they did have a tent option if bad weather or too hot. The food was good and hot (actually some was too hot, better than being cold though). Then they lead everyone inside to the 'dance floor' (by the touch tank if you've been) and the wedding party entered over the little bridge, which was pretty cool. Then dinner is over near the exhibit tank. Ok now this is where its a bit odd, I mean obviously when they built the aquarium they weren't hinking 'hey lets host weddings'. So some of the tables end up being around the other side of the tanks so some people kind of feel cut off and can't see the dais. And the dancing is on the other side of the wall in basicaly a separate room so you can't see people dancing while you're enjoying your dinner. The food for dinner was alright, pretty catering standard I thought.

Glen Cove Mansion: The rooms are beautiful and the food was good. Awesome dessert buffet! One thing that really bothered me though was that because it's also a hotel people were walking past with their luggage. All the guests were gathered in the lobby, receiving champagne and anyone else walking through could also just grab a glasss off the tray. Also, the bathrooms were shared by people walking through the hotel. By the time salad was served the gigantic ladies room basket ,that the bride had put together, had been filled with all kinds of goodies was stripped down to a few maxi pads I don't think it was the wedding guests who raided the basket.

I posted a negative experience and got reamed out by brides of that venue. They even went so far as to calling me a liar and saying I worked for another RH (Even though I never named another RH in that post so it would have defeated the purpose if I did work for someone else) LIW ended up deleting the post because it's one of their vendors and I guess they didn't want to piss anyone off. After that, I stopped using the site for venting and opinions. I know every place and vendor is not gumdrops and rainbows and if I can't express that freely, I'd rather not take part.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

BUMP - I like this thread
--------------------------------

Russo's (March 2008) - great food, great service, nice spacious room! Very clean. One of the best cocktail hours and venetian hours I've ever been to. Only thing I don't love about it is that it's located on a very busy street, but once you enter the hall, you completely forget about the outside. This hall can handle a lot of decoration, bling, more for very formal affairs. Paris was the band, and they were awesome!! Russo's is a guaranteed great wedding.

Floral Terrace (June 2009)- very nice wedding. I remember the CH room being a little blank, not too decorated. The food was very good, and they kept replenishing it. In the ballroom, I remember that the dance floor was in the middle, and from where I was seated, it was a little tough to see what was happening. Very good service, and the bartender kept the drinks flowing! Waiters constantly folded napkins and were very attentive.

Jericho Terrace (2007) - amazing (!!!) seafood and Italian cold cut stations at the CH. We were seated closest to the DJ, and the sound was really too loud, but beautiful room and amazing food and presentation.

Watermill (2010) - very nice outdoor CH big enough for 150 guests (more might be too squished). We were in the upstairs room for the reception. I liked how the room is set up, all tables were able to see the dance floor. Nice, big bar with easy access! Tommy's Tunes was the DJ, and I danced all night!

Watermill (2011) - this time, the CH hour was in the upstairs room and it was wayyy too crowded (about 250 guests!). The reception was in the downstairs room, and it held the amount of people nicely. I liked how the room was set up, easy access to the bar and dance floor. Only con IMO is there are no windows and you have to go upstairs to exit. Very clean. LI Sound was the DJ, and we danced all night. They did play a little too many oldies for my liking, but I still danced to them lol. I did ask the waitress to wrap my entree, she said okay, and then never came back with it. She also took away the couple's plates next to us before they even touched them, and when they asked for them, she said dinner was over.

East Wind (2011) - very pretty grounds, best entree I ever had at a wedding (it was steak...I think filet mignon). Again, the way the room is set up, it was a little hard to see the dance floor and no windows! (Can you tell I like

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Snapper Inn- 1999 & 2009
Been to 2 weddings here, 10 years apart...on the same date. Love the location on the water. It is very peaceful. During the ceremony, you could hear the clanging of plates and forks the ENTIRE TIME. If you're getting married here, I would suggest a church ceremony. There was not a lot of food during cocktail hour. In general, the food was decent. I remember the broccoli being amazing. Everything else was just ok. However, I had a great time, the DJ was really good and it was a beautiful night on the water. I would recommend this place.

Majestic Gardens- 2008
Ceremony space was nice but very green (hedges and ivy) which was too much green for me. Chairs were wet from a rain shower. The cocktail hour was nice, half indoor/half outdoor. The pool/water feature is very unique. Servers did not know what food they were handing out. Ballroom was spacious and the foyer had a fireplace with couches. Pictures of the bride and groom were on the mantle. That was nice. The food was really not good tasting. I did not like the pasta or the entree...or even the cake. This is just my opinion.

Hamlet Wind Watch Mt. Sinai- 2007?
Ceremony was inside the ballroom but you could not tell at all that they used dividers to separate. I would have never known it was the same room. Cockatail hour was half indoor/half outdoor. The food was very good. I liked the outdoor space. There was a very narrow hallway/walkway with the dividers to go outside. That was awkward but manageable. Ballroom was huge and pretty. I would recommend this place.

Chateau Briand- 2011
I was in the wedding so I missed the cocktail hour. Food was good from what they served us. I did not like how they trapped us in the small bridal suite for 30 minutes and wouldn't allow us to take any more pictures. The ballroom set up was strange, where they placed the Bride and Groom. I suppose, it was the best choice but I would have put them on the other end of the room. Entree was good. Cake was dry. I did not love the decor on the walls it was too modern for my taste however, the draped ceiling was beautiful. I might recommend this place depending on the price.

Crest Hollow Country Club- 2008 & 2009
Went to 2 Christmas parties here. The food and service was excellent. It was cocktail style with stations of different foods. The pool in the backyard was a nice view from the window. There was a second room for venetian hour. There are several parties at once but you really can not tell at all. I would definitely recommend this place.

Riviera at Massapequa-
Was at several parties here growing up but I don't remember if any were weddings. I remember the food being ok. The outdoor view is beautiful. The inside is dark because it's all wood. The style is very rustic. I have heard stories negative and positive about this place, some issues more on the severe side. I would recommend this place with precautions to certain issues and talking to another person who had a party there first.

Has anyone been to a wedding as Douglaston Manor?

I saw a quick two-three sentence review but that was also back in 2001, nearly 10 years ago and before the renovations.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I went to a wedding a few weeks ago at Ricardo's in Queens and it was most annoying that for:

1. They were not ready for guest to come into the dining room so we had to stand around in the lobby with nothing to eat or drink,

2. The place cards were not in alphabetical order so the line waiting to come in took forever.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I have 3 weddings next yr on top of my own so I will have more reviews later on in the yr. However, I attended a wedding at Lenoards over the summer so here is my review:

If your driving fast, you will miss the place LOL It's set back a bit. The place was nice. There were 2 other weddings going on so it was a bit crowded arriving.

Coctail hr: The cocktail didn't impress me. There werent many food options and there was a huge line at one table. You would think they were serving lobster! LOL Of course they ran out of utensils & there were no waiters in sight to replenish.

Reception: The reception room was nice and so was outside lobby. The food from apps to dessert was really good.

Hope this helps :)
