Britney Hosts Kevin's Birthday BashThursday Mar 23, 2006 7:20am EST

Britney Spears threw husband Kevin Federline a birthday party on Tuesday in his favorite city: Las Vegas, PEOPLE reports.
The singer and Federline, who turned 28 on March 21, arrived just after 8:30 p.m. at the restaurant Tao Las Vegas at the Venetian, where they slipped in through the back door and joined their 10 guests in a private dining room.
Spears (in a black halter dress with a low-cut back) drank a Cosmo, while K-Fed (in a wife-beater and a New York Yankees cap) went for a Jack and Coke, shots and beer. The group dined on sushi, chicken satay, lobster tempura and grilled Kobe beef, followed by cake served by two little people in tight dresses.
'Kevin was wearing his ring even though Brit wasn't,' says a witness. 'They were being affectionate with each other. She sat on his lap for awhile. He fed her a bite of an appetizer. '
By 10:30, Federline had finished opening his presents and the party headed to Pure Nightclub at Caesars Palace, where Spears snuggled with the birthday boy on the club's VIP bed when she wasn't dancing barefoot to tunes spun by DJ Hollywood (she requested Prince).
'They didn't leave each other's side all night,' a clubgoer tells PEOPLE. 'They danced together – Britney was doing all her famous dance moves. Toward the end of the night, they were all over each other – kissing and hugging, having a great time.' The couple finally called it a night at around 2 a.m.
'Spears (in a black halter dress with a low-cut back) drank a Cosmo'.... Lets hope she wouldn't be drinking if she was pregnant. So i'm going to say that she's NOT pregnant!

says the uber-rich movie star .....Natalie Portman claims actresses who go to Hollywood to get rich are no better than prostitutes.
The 'V for Vendetta' star insists she only takes on roles based on their artistic merit and says she would never agree to be in a film just because she was offered a large fee.
She said: 'I don't want to ever be working for money because then you are no different to a prostitute.'
The screen beauty - who starred in the money spinning 'Star Wars' prequels - also revealed going to college was the best thing she's ever done.
Portman - who once said she would 'rather be smart than a movie star' - says her experiences at America's prestigious Harvard University taught her to have a life outside of Tinseltown.
She told Britain's Independent newspaper: 'I have the most amazing friends in the world, who are doing such interesting and different things, and are their own people. They are my support base along with my parents. They are inspiring and always doing different, interesting things so I remember how to be a person by being around them.
'Like, you can play a person if you are a person in real life. It's hard to be like, 'I just pretend to be a human being on TV!' So the most important thing about college is that now I really have a life and I've got that forever.'

Their baby is on the way, but it's not here yet: Amid rumors that she was ready to deliver, Katie Holmes steps out with Tom Cruise on Wednesday to watch his son Connor's baseball game in Hollywood's La Cienenega Park (the couple arrived after a trip to the nearby Scientology center).

Sambora Asks Locklear for Joint CustodyThursday Mar 23, 2006 4:20pm EST

Heather Locklear's estranged husband, rocker Richie Sambora, is asking that the prenuptial agreement signed by the couple before they were married in 1994 be 'enforced,' according to legal papers filed last Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
In his filing, Sambora, the guitarist for Bon Jovi, seeks joint custody of the couple's 8-year-old daughter, Ava Elizabeth. He also requests that he not be required to pay spousal support. His papers list the couple's separation date – Dec. 26, 2005 – the first time that the day has actually been revealed.
Last Feb. 2, the same day divorce papers were filed, Locklear's rep told PEOPLE: 'After 11 years of marriage Heather Locklear has filed for divorce from Richie Sambora. … This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time.'
In the filing, Locklear alone requested physical custody of daughter Ava, with visitation rights for Sambora. The actress cited 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the split. The divorce petition also cited a prenuptial agreement for determining how their assets would be divided.
The couple became engaged seven months after they met through a friend. The day after Sambora's proposal, Locklear, who was then starring on Melrose Place, proudly flashed her pear-shaped diamond engagement ring from Cartier while attending the Emmys. They soon set up house in Locklear's airy, four-bedroom home in L.A.
This was the second marriage for Locklear, 44, who split from Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee in 1993 after nearly eight years of marriage. This was the first marriage for Sambora, 46, who previously dated Cher.

Paula Abdul's New GuyThursday Mar 23, 2006 4:10pm EST

Mere weeks ago Paula Abdul grew teary talking to TV's Dr. Phil about the difficulty of finding true love. He promptly set her up on 10 blind dates – but that was before Tony Schiena.
At last Tuesday's opening of the Leona Edmiston boutique in West Hollywood, the 43-year-old American Idol judge turned heads when she emerged from a Jaguar with the handsome actor on her arm. Inside, the two sipped pomegranate martinis and held hands; at one point Schiena, 6'3', stood behind the 5'2' star and wrapped her in his arms, PEOPLE reports in its upcoming issue.
Sitting in the Idol audience the next night, he noted to a pal, 'Hey, she looks good, huh?' Abdul and Schiena winked and waved to each other, and she even squeezed in a quick visit, prompting one Idol staffer to ask, 'Who is that hottie with Paula?'
Who indeed? Schiena was named a black belt world champ by the World Traditional Karate Organization in 2001 before turning to acting. (His credits include CSI: NY and a small role in 2004's The Merchant of Venice.)
Abdul's rep insists the duo are 'just friends,' while Schiena's rep says her client's 'friendship' with Abdul started a year ago, when they met socially.
As for all that affection, his rep says Schiena, who's from South Africa, is 'very warm. Holding hands is as normal as giving a good friend a kiss on the cheek.'

Re: I'M BORED...THAT MUST MEAN CELEB GOSSIP TIME!!!
sadLooks like the happy couple of Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber may not be so happy anymore. According to The New York Daily News' Rush and Molloy, the two have been going their separate ways.
'He's been telling people he's having 'girlfriend trouble,'' a source tells us. 'She's been telling people to keep an eye out for new boyfriends.'
But lately, Watts is said to have confided that she's finding him a tad too controlling.
Even though 'King Kong' put her on Hollywood's A-list, 'He wants her to stop working entirely and have a baby,' claims a source. 'He wants to review all her script offers. He even likes her to look a certain way.'
Obviously, their publicists are denying any split. So who should we believe? An unnamed source, or a payed lacky? Conundrum!

Queen Latifah To Be A Mom?March 23, 2006
Is QUEEN LATIFAH planning on motherhood? The rapper-turned-actress breaks news that she hopes to be a mom by this time next year. 'I'm really working on it,' she says. 'I've got everyone galvanized, I've cleared my schedule, and it's going to happen soon. God willing, I will be a mom!'
Latifah, who puts her maternal instincts to use in 'Ice Age: The Meltdown,' says she doesn't plan on being a stay-at-home mom but will make her baby top priority. 'The thing about having a child is -- I believe it's the most unselfish thing you could ever do,' she says. 'They're going to come first.'

Re: I'M BORED...THAT MUST MEAN CELEB GOSSIP TIME!!!
'Idol' Race Tightens to 10 ContestantsLOS ANGELES — When 'American Idol' contestant Taylor Hicks belted out Stevie Wonder's golden oldie 'Living for the City' there was scant age difference between the singer and the 32-year-old song.
Hicks, 29, and other 'Idol' finalists edging near 30 are testing the limits of just how old an aspiring pop star can be and still gain acceptance from the music industry and the public -- while the TV contest reaps the rewards of showcasing older performers.
The top-rated Fox show is attracting a bigger audience than ever in its fifth edition as it offers a wider range of talent, which producers say is why they raised the audition age limit from 24 to 28 last year.
This season, the change opened the door for half of the dozen finalists: Besides Hicks, who turned 29 after making the cut, there's Mandisa, also 29; Bucky Covington, 28; Chris Daughtry, 26; Elliott Yamin, 27, and Ace Young, 25.
'There's a lot of really good singers we were turning down because of the age limit, and we realized it was silly,' said executive producer Ken Warwick. 'You're certainly not over the hill by 28.'
Not yet, but there are uncomfortable hints the crest may be in sight, said Mandisa, a veteran performer who dedicated her powerful voice to Christian music pre-'American Idol.'
'A lot of people say it's kind of the end of the road for me, so to be able to have this competition and be right at the brink where I can still make it, it's a dream come true,' she told The Associated Press after being voted a finalist. 'There's really no turning back.'
That's right -- and it's wrong, according to music business insiders and observers. It's certainly true that young consumers and the artists they favor dominate the music marketplace, to an extent that makes TV look relatively age-inclusive.
'When you talk to guys in the record industry you do hear a lot of, 'Wow, she's 30, she's 35,' as if that completely ends any discussion,' said Sean Ross, editor of Edison Media Research, which conducts research for radio stations and others.
'And, in fact, you see a lot of artists who aren't that old who have lost their own deals and go to work writing for Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson,' Ross said, naming the 21-year-old pop star and the inaugural 23-year-old winner of 'American Idol.'
Rocker Sheryl Crow, 44, has had to 'fight for her place' in radio for the last five years, Ross said. It's the same in R&B: While a star like Mary J. Blige has endured, others are exiled to adult contemporary radio.
After Janet Jackson bared her breast at the 2004 Super Bowl, 'it was discussed as a pathetic attempt to stay relevant' by the now 39-year-old singer, Ross said.
But there is hope for comparatively older artists, according to Ross and others. Talent can trump age for a stellar artist or one who aims for a career other than teenagers' darling.
'It's certainly more difficult as you become older,' said TVT Records founder Steve Gottlieb. 'But every success is an exception to the rule. No one gets a free pass, and unique talent trumps everything else.'
There are examples of singers who are beyond the Clearasil years making a splash.
At age 28, James Blunt of Britain became music's latest hot property with the hit ballad 'You're Beautiful,' which was a mainstay on American adult contemporary formats before crossing over to top 40 radio.
Mariah Carey, 36, had her biggest hit yet with her comeback album, 'The Emancipation of Mimi.' Madonna is a dance music chart-topper at age 47, and country fans are more than open to hits from the likes of 44-year-old Toby Keith.
'If you're a guy who's 35 years old trying to be 16, of course that doesn't work,' said Steve Stoute, whose company, Translations Marketing, links music stars with commercial products. 'But if you're talented and representing who you are, there's absolutely an audience for you.'
That's true even for baby-boom artists, and beyond. The latest album from Barry Manilow, 59, was holding its own on the charts this month, hovering right above the Black Eyed Peas, while Tony Bennett, 79, has put out best-selling records in recent years.
In an appearance on 'American Idol,' Manilow threw his weight behind the veterans, calling Hicks 'one of the best male vocalists you have on the show' and suggesting he might hire Mandisa if the contest didn't pan out for her.
Youth, however, may not be denied. Although 'Idol' judge Simon Cowell has expressed doubt about whether the youngest contestants can handle the pressures of competition, Paris Bennett, 17, and Lisa Tucker and Kevin Covais, both 16, made it to the finals. (Covais was voted off Wednesday.)
The average age of the four 'American Idol' winners is just over 22.
'Age really doesn't have anything to do with it,' said Paris Bennett. Her comment drew a nod of agreement from Tucker, who added: 'It's knowing you can do it.'
Older or younger, music stardom is a chancy dream for anyone to pursue, said record executive Gottlieb.
'Certainly, the odds are against (older singers),' he said. 'But when the odds are 1 million to one, the fact they then become 10 million to one is not a big deal.'
