Actress Selma Blair and actor-rocker Ahmet Zappa are divorcing after two years of marriage, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

Blair filed the petition in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday citing irreconcilable differences.

'Selma and Ahmet have decided to divorce but love each other very much and will continue to be close friends,' Troy Nankin, spokesperson for the couple, said in a statement to PEOPLE.

The couple married in January 2004 at the L.A. home of actress Carrie Fisher after dating for six months. 'The ceremony was so romantic, beautiful, elegant, a little goofy – exactly like them,' a friend told PEOPLE at the time.

Blair, 33, is best known for her roles in 1999's Cruel Intentions and 2001's Legally Blonde. She stars in the upcoming Edward Burns-directed film Purple Violets alongside Debra Messing.

The 32-year-old Zappa – son of the late musician Frank Zappa – most recently hosted last year's VH1 talent search, But Can They Sing?

The marriage was the first for both. They have no children.

I think she looks great. I don't think she looks sick...shes got meat and shes never been heavy. Some people are naturally skinny. People have thought I have had an eating disorder for years...let me tell, I dont. I eat all the time...just dont gain weight. Lucky I guess.

I agree I think she looks good. I also find it funny that amongst all of these pictures we point out who is too skinny and whose thighs are too big or getting big or whatever. I mean, we sit and wonder why those with eating disorders have them and then criticize others for being big when in reality they are on the small side of average

It doesn’t bode well that marketing and producer staffs at Island are studying nearly every inch of Beyonce’s career to market the Caribbean youngster in the similar manner. “Beyonce was Crazy in Love three years ago. She’s simply slowly accepting the end of their relationship.”

The all-candlelight ceremony took place just after sundown Sunday night at Sydney, Australia's Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel on St. Patrick's Estate at Manly.

Guests at the black-tie event included Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts and Rupert Murdoch.

Kidman's wedding party consisted of her sister Antonia, who was her maid of honor, and daughter Isabella, 13, who was her bridesmaid. Antonia's daughter, Lucia, was a flower girl. On the groom's side were Urban's brother Shane, who served as best man, and longtime buddy Marlon Holden, who produced Urban's first solo album in 1991.

Kidman wore a dress by Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga. Her father, Antony, walked her down the aisle under the dramatic glow of a spotlight. She kept her veil on throughout the ceremony, only lifting it when it came time to say the (very traditional) vows.
