In a move very reminiscent of Jessica Simpson's last days with Nick Lachey, Britney Spears went shopping at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles on Monday with her bodyguard and she conspicuously kept her wedding ring and hand covered whilst being snapped by the paparazzi.

Lindsay Lohan is raging over her new Vanity Fair profile.

The 'Mean Girls' star claims VF writer Evgenia Peretz 'lied' when she reported that the 19-year-old actress had battled bulimia.

'The words that I gave to the writer for Vanity Fair were misused and misconstrued, and I'm appalled with the way it was done,' Lohan said in a statement to Teen People. 'Aside from [the writer's] lies and changing of my words, I am blessed to have this job and wonderful family that I do.'

Vanity Fair fired back with a statement of its own, defending Peretz, the daughter of New Republic Editor in Chief Martin Peretz.

'Evgenia Peretz is one of our most reliable reporters,' the magazine said. 'Every word Lindsay Lohan told her is on tape. Vanity Fair stands by the story.'

Meanwhile, Lohan is standing by her publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnick, despite rumors that she was going to fire her because of the story.

'Lindsay loves the photos [in the issue], and she's still a fan of Vanity Fair,' Zelnick told us yesterday. 'She's upset with the writer.'

Connolly sat alone at a table for two the other night at the Mercer Kitchen, sipping a glass of red wine and tapping out messages on his Sidekick for about half an hour while making polite conversation with two young ladies sitting nearby. When no tall heiresses materialized to join him at his table, the diminutive Connolly got up and departed. Was he stood up? 'We don't comment on our clients' personal lives,' Connolly's rep told Lowdown.

According to court documents, Nick Lachey has sued estranged spouse Jessica Simpson for ending their marriage three months before the pair contractually agreed to stay together.

“Mr. Lachey signed over to Ms. Simpson all royalties from ’98 Degrees’ songs, his appearance on an MTV reality show to promote her albums and perfume line, and his soul in exchange for 41 months of marriage that would keep him in the public spotlight,” wrote Lachey’s attorney. “The couple has been married only 38 months and Ms. Simpson is in violation of the contract, ending the union early.”

In a written response, Simpson’s lawyers argued that since Lachey would continue to receive publicity until the divorce is official in several months, she is still fulfilling her contractual obligations.

“I hope Katie Holmes is paying attention to this,” said one source close to Lachey. “These Hollywood stars feel free to play fast and loose with marriage contracts and they think they have so much power you can’t do anything about it. The lack of morals sickens me.”

Melissa Joan Hart, best known as the star of TV's Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and her musician husband, Mark Wilkerson, welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on Wednesday, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

Mason Walter Wilkerson was born at 4:19 p.m. in Los Angeles, and weighed in at 9 lbs. exactly.

'He was a little stubborn, but all is well,' the actress tells PEOPLE. 'Everyone is well and we are all relieved.'

When news of the star's pregnancy was reported last June, her mother, Paula Hart, told PEOPLE, 'I'm thrilled to death. I'm so excited. Melissa is feeling great. So far, so good.'

At her Nov. 28 baby shower, the mom-to-be and 35 guests gathered at Paula's San Fernando Valley home to decorate onesies, eat homemade lasagna and cupcakes and marvel at her bump. 'I have this enormous belly,' she told PEOPLE. 'Everyone tells me I won't make it to January.'

Hart, 29, and Wilkerson, 28, the lead singer and guitarist for the hard-rock trio Course of Nature, met when she introduced his band at the Kentucky Derby's Mint Jubilee cancer fund-raiser in Louisville, Ky., in May 2002. 'It was love at first sight,' Hart said. 'We made eye contact, and my knees got weak.'

They were married in Florence, Italy, on July 19, 2003. Since Sabrina had ended its seven-year run just three months earlier, the couple were eager to focus on their future. As Hart told PEOPLE, 'we can start enjoying the rest of our lives together.'

HILARY SWANK and CHAD LOWE may be separated right now, but don't be so quick to assume they're headed for divorce court. Sources tell me that the couple are trying hard to repair their marriage. 'They're working on it,' one source says. 'And I know they really want to make it work.' So what caused this seemingly perfectly happy couple to separate? There's no overriding reason, the source says, but 'like all couples they have their problems.' But the speculation continues, with some pointing to Swank telling Vogue magazine last year that she was ready to have kids and thanked her husband for waiting so long. KEVIN FEDERLINE told RYAN SEACREST last week that his marriage to BRITNEY SPEARS is just swell. It certainly looked that way this past weekend when the two hit Nobu restaurant at PETER MORTON's Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The Federlines and some friends dined on Kobe Beef, crunchy rock shrimp, tempura rolls and other delights. SISTERS-in-scandal Lindsay Lohan and Kate Moss joined forces at Scores strip club early yesterday morning to put on a steamy pole-dance show for 400 slack-jawed male patrons, PAGE SIX has learned.
Lohan, Moss and a couple of female friends swanned into the Upper East Side mammary mecca at about 2:45 a.m. and headed straight for the legendary Champagne Room, where the giggly group ordered round after round of vodka shots, raspberry Kamikazes and beer.

Their table was immediately swarmed by strippers and Lohan and Moss enjoyed numerous lap dances. But the fun really started when Moss jumped on the stage nearest the main bar and began grinding against a pole, much to the delight of hundreds of red-blooded banker types.

'Kate was going wild,' a witness told us. 'After a few songs, Lindsay jumped on stage with her. They were swinging on the pole with their arms around each other's waists, kissing each other, caressing each other, just acting like strippers. The crowd was cheering them on the whole time. They didn't take off any clothes, but it was very hot.'

Asked about the boldfaced bump-and-grind, Scores spokesman Lonnie Hanover would only say, 'We don't talk about our celebrity clientele.'

Luckily, we found someone who would: Celebrity photographer James Edstrom managed to catch some of the eye-popping action and followed Lohan and Moss outside when they left some time after 4 a.m.

'They were both running in and out of the ladies' room a lot,' Edstrom recalled. 'I saw when it was just Lindsay dancing solo and Kate was yelling, 'You're a pro, Lindsay! You should do this for a living!'

Lohan released a statement this week saying she was 'appalled' by the Vanity Fair cover story in which she confessed to dabbling in drugs and battling bulimia, saying her words were 'misused and misconstrued.' VF stands by the story. The glam glossy also recently made Moss a cover girl after pictures of the supermodel snorting cocaine made headlines around the world.

A source says, 'Mila's looking for a ring that's unique and may even opt for a ruby instead of a diamond.' It looks like in Hollywood, you have to be pregnant before you can get married. First Reese Witerspoon and now Naomi Watts is reportedly pregnant and planning to marry her partner, Liev Schreiber. A source has told Star Magazine, 'Naomi is ready to walk down the aisle with Liev - maybe soon. Liev doesn't want to waste anytime. He is absolutely thrilled Naomi is going to marry him.'
Naomi reinforced this by telling journalists, 'I want to start a family. My private life has suffered, so that sort of makes me clear about what I need,' and has described Liev as her 'perfect man.' Liev wasn't helping the matter either, when asked by Australian media this week about a possible engagement he made no attempt to deny the rumours, 'we don't discuss that with anybody.'
