Going down to Virginia for a wedding tomorrow (updated)
Back from Virginia! OMG that was the strangest wedding I have ever been to. I wish they would of told me to not dress up because I was ridiculously overdressed when I could of worn my work clothes. ARGGHHHH! I spent so much money on shoes, dress, a wrap, pantyhose. After the church, they tell us to go to the next room for refreshments. Meaning NO FOOD! They had some cheese and crackers and some cookies. There was no music and they were hardly any tables. Aluminum chairs were set up along the perimeter of the room. The whole thing lasted an hour and a half. Not that I'm judging but I wish they would of told me to eat beforehand and not to dress up.

Re: Going down to Virginia for a wedding tomorrow.
Oh, that's pretty far from where I am. I'm in Northern VA. If the wedding were here, I'd say it would be close to the same as a NY wedding (although I've never been to one here - just a guess).Have fun!

Re: Going down to Virginia for a wedding tomorrow.
well, if it's anything like pa, yeah it won't be the same as here. the wedding i went to in southern pa, was in this beautiful castle, and then they served us sandwiches for dinner! and no assigned seating which i hate. and if it's any indication a woman i used to work with who's originally from mi and lives in md now was telling me about a wedding she was going to in ga. she was very upset by the idea of assigned seating. she was like 'isn't that just awful, to tell people where to sit!?' this was right before my wedding, so i politely informed her that in some places on the planet it's considered normal! anyway, hope you have a great time. and good luck with the drive it's a killer.

Re: Going down to Virginia for a wedding tomorrow.
i think most places outside of NYC/LI have a different definition of a wedding. every wedding i have been to out of the Tri-State area has been a much more casual, laid-back affair.

Yes, NY weddings are definitely different from ones in other states

Re: Going down to Virginia for a wedding tomorrow.
I live in Arlington, VA and have been to a few down here. Ann is right, the closer to the metro area (i.e., DC) the more like NY...BUT even so, NOTHING compares to NYC/NJ/LI weddings. Even my friends from here in NoVA were amazed at how much we had at ours!!ETA: Oh and if you really want to know about how different it can be in other states, just ask me about the one I was in in Alabama!

Re: Going down to Virginia for a wedding tomorrow.
Kathy, I almost went to Mary Washington! I lived in Stafford with my sister for a couple of years, back in '88 - '90. Now I live in Sterling, right by Dulles Airport. Mary Washington is a beautiful school. I could kick myself for not going there (but then again, if I did, my life would've turned out totally different....)

That's so funny Anniegirl about MWC! I absolutely loved that school, it was the best four years of my LIFE!!!!!!!!! I have lifelong friends from there (my entire bridal party). I graduated from MWC in '98.One of my best girlfriend's also lives in the Stafford area! She loves it, I think she's got some 30 acres, and has horses, etc.
VA is such a beautiful state, and the people are SO nice!
