Reception Hall Advice Requested

Hi All, first time poster here. I have some basic questions about choosing the right reception hall.

We are looking for a nice place that will cost between $75-$100 a person. It will most likely be a Friday night wedding in September of 05. We would like a nice place that gives us flexibility with dining options.

Some of the places we've been thinking about (opinions very welcome) include:

- Leonards of GN.
- Swan Club
- Westbury Manor
- Lido Country Club

Thanks very much for any information you can provide...

Tiffany

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

do you have your heart set on any particular county? (suffolk or nassau?)
we're getting married at the watermill in april 2004, saturday afternoon and it would fit into your price range

oh, i've only been to one of the palces on your list - the westbury manor - it's a beautiful place and was actually our second choice!!

good luck with whatever you choose!!!

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

Check out Bayview House at Captian Bill's

They have been very easy to work with so far, they are in your price range, andI think the location is beautiful, down on the ocean on the south shore.

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

It looks like you are trying to stay in Western Nassau, so you might want to think about
Stewart Manor Country Club
The Millridge Cottage
George Washington Manor
and there is also the Chateau Briand.

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

Try this site Wedding Sites and Services You'll find a pretty good directory of places in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Info includes capacity, price range, basic services, sample menu and links to their sites.

It's a good site to start your search

As for locations try
Crest Hollow Country Club
Leonard's of Great Neck
Huntington Townhouse

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

Thanks for all the advice; just curious if anyone has been to any buffet style weddings at any of these locations. We are considering this type of reception.

Thanks again.

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

Let me rephrase that;

Thanks to the help of some of the members of the board it is actually an 'extended cocktail hour' that we are considering.

One other thing, any recomendation for starting to narrow the list down? Whats the best way to go about that.. just start visiting them?

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

I'm fairly certain that most places will work with you regarding the style of the reception you want. I, of course, will also say to check out Woodbury Country Club.

As for narrowing them down, basically, you need to do your research. Check them out online, if they have web sites. Do NOT, however, go based solely on pics on their web sites, as looks can be deceiving (in both directions). Go and visit them. Call and inquire ahead of time whether they can accommodate the type of reception you're looking for and what kind of reaction they give you when you tell them.

What I would not do, is read reviews from brides. I know that sounds strange, but very rarely will you get a bride that has anything negative to say about her own venue. Do, however, read reviews of those people who went to weddings other than their own at these various places.

In the end, it's really a personal choice as to why you pick one place over another and why one person will look at a place and think, 'not in a million years,' and another person will look at the same place and think, 'not in a million years did I think I would find a place as perfect as this!'

Oh, and congrats and welcome!

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

Hello and Welcome to the boards. Prepare to become addicted

My FI and I looked at 9 places before we chose Westbury Manor. We made a list of what we wanted and prioritized. For example Price, Food, Atmosphere, Gardens for pictures, etc.

In the end we chose WBM because we liked them the best. They have a lot to offer before add-ins. You can not go wrong with any of thier properties. Viewing the message boards will prove that. I have only heard excellent things about the hall itself and the banquet managers. They are also in your price range.
The WBM even has it's own thread if you are interested in seeing some of the posts.
Here is thier website.....

If you have any more questions feel free to FM me.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!

I also forgot to mention. My sister had her reception at the Milleridge Inn. They had thier reception in the cottage. It was beautiful. They were able to take pics in the villiage and the food was good too!

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

Out of those I have only seen the Swan Club (june262004 is getting married there) It didnt fit our wants and the price for a Saturday night in April or May was too much in our opinion.
At our hall we are paying LESS than your price range for a Saturday night in june!
Also I think the Kelly6273 got married at Lido Golf Club you may want to as her!

Good Luck!
My advice is go to a few because I thought I knew the exact hall that I wanted and when I went there I was GREATLY disappointed! And the hall we booked based on pictures I didnt think I would like, we were going there to get an idea as to different price ranges and we loved it!

Re: Reception Hall Advice Requested

Villa Lombardi's on a friday night is in that prioce range. Is that price range after tax and tip, or before tax and tip. Villa Lombardi's has the best cocktail hour, and they have several menu packages to choose from.
