I'm not because she doesnt have it anymore because of a situation that happened, but I always wanted to. I will be using her purse though, tainted yellow and all.....I dont care I love that I will have it.

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I altered mom's dress and wore it to my high school graduation - my high school has a tradition of white dresses for graduation and I loved the history behind my dress!

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I considered wearing it until I tried it on.. I looked like I was wearing a little girls dress.. My mom is MUCH shorter than me.. I did not think about that until I put it on... But it was very comical for all to see me with a long sleeved dress that looked like 3/4 sleeves, and a gown that was ballroom length that barely covered my shin.
After the wedding I am thinking about storing it until I have kids and then making their christening outfits out of it.

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I would love to wear my Mom's wedding gown, but Mom is 5'4' and was a size 2. I'm 5'9' and not a size 2.

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
No I'm not - Mom is much shorter then me. I am going to have the seamstress sew a piece of her dress on the inside of mine. You won't be able to see it obviously but it will be my something old.

I love the idea of making the christening gowns out of the dress!

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I am not, first its soooo not my taste and second it no longer has a train, the christening outfits my brother and I wore were made from it. I will either do that with my dress as well or my daughter (if I have one) will wear the same outfit I wore!

My mother was married in 1972 also...same reason I didn't consider wearing it!

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I couldn't wear it1. She never preserved it, so it is really badly yellowed.
2. The dress was a size 5 and had to be taken in (Mom was 5'4 and 100 lbs, I am NOT)

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I've tried both my mom's and my grandmother's on. If my gown does not come in on time, I think I will wear my mom's.

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I didn't - it wasn't really my style though I might have had it altered if it wasn't for the fact that my mom was about 100 lbs when she got married - I was not!! I tried it on and it almost choked me to death too because of the high neck.My SIL wore my MIL's dress for her wedding. She had it cleaned (they did an amazing job since it had been up in the attic for over 30 years and was a bit yellowed and stained) and she had the sleeves made into cap sleeves. It looked beautiful and I thought it was soo nice.

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
Absolutley not! First of all, she threw it away
(the joys of divorce). Secondly, she got married in 1972 along with everyone else's mother
and third, she's 5'3' I'm 5'9' - if I wanted a knee-length dress I would have bought one!

Re: Is anyone wearing their mothers wedding gown
I didn't have that option, since my parents eloped!! I don't know anyone that wore their mom's gown, it's such a nice thought, but it seems like it hardly happens. Yet we all get our gowns preserved hoping our daughters will wear it! I did the same thing!
