need quick help! Anyone know how to take out a belly button ring?

I have a belly button ring that I want to take out...after 11 years!

It's a simple silver ring, with a ball attached. I always thought I'd just need to unscrew the ball but it's not working and now it's starting to hurt again!

How the heck else is it supposed to come off?!

I just took mine out and unscrewed the ball. It took a little while to get it lose, but it finally cam undone. If you can't do it yourself, go to a place that does piercings and have them do it for you.

Your's is probably not screwed on. The ball (bead) sits in between the two ends. I had to use pliers on mine (the steel was too strong for me to bend it away with my fingers). You may want to ask your DH to help you out with this.

The ball does turn though - so I figured it was a screw on....

and Jenny - DH suggested I come online here and post the question for some suggestions! He's a great help!

He did suggest cutting the ring, but I'm afraid the sharp edges would cut my skin when I removed it

the ball turns b/c it's a bead with 2 holes, one on each end. the bead is basically held together by the pressure of each end of the ring. you have to separate the ends of the ring in order to get the bead loose. the steel is tought to work with, so I used a plier on one side and my fingers on the other to help loosen the sides.

take a pair of needle nose pliers with the tips closed and insert in the ring

open the pliers and the force of the needle nose opening should open the ring

most navel rings are actually pressure beads - not screw ons

how did that not hurt like hell! Every time I move the ring now it's irritating my skin!

I think I'll head over to the place I got the piercing tomorrow and ask them to take it out for me.

OMG thank you Meghan! DH just did exactly what you suggested and it worked in a flash! It's finally out!!!

I was starting to get worried I'd develop an infection or something....

Well, when I did it, my navel wasn't hurtin' like yours. But after reading Meghan's method, I'm smackin' myself in the head. It makes much more sense!!!

wanted to add: Now I have a huge hole in my skin right above my navel! I figured that would be the case so I'll have to be sure and treat it with vitamin E oil so it doesn't leave a big scar.

What exactly was I thinking way back when....??!

Jenn, they might carry 14k. What about the jewelers that are in the middle of the mall, behind the counters?

What about where you got the navel ring from? I'm sure they carry extras.
