How do I help hubby get out of an awkward situation?

Ok- here goes.

My hubby did not invite a long time friend of his to our wedding. He grew up with this guy.
Well he and his wife now reside out of state, we even went to their wedding.

We were very limited with our guest list so DH felt that since we hardly see them- they could be cut. I felt differently because we invited other friends who live in the same state as them. I told DH we really should invite them, but he insisted no.

Well the guy called to ask Dh what his reasons were for not inviting him- now DH does not know what to say, because now he is starting to feel bad.

You said it already in your post, just be honest and tell him you had a very limited guest list and you don't see them all the time. It also sounds like this guy is trying to put your DH on a guilt trip - why is this coming up now? Weren't you married months ago?

Re: How do I help hubby get out of an awkward situation?

too bad your dh didn't say 'what do you mean? we figured you were not coming b/c we didn't get your reply'

but too late for that i guess.

there's really no way out of it. i'm surprised he didn't invite this guy.

sounds like there's more to meets the eye in why he didn't invite him, if he invited other guests that live in that state.

I really want to tell DH told you so, but that would not be nice would it

We were cutting costs and could not invite everyone. In retropsect DH knows he should have invited him. He did nothing wrong to us, don't know how to explain it.

I guess in this case honesty is the best policy.

I'd be honest, like you said it was a very small wedding. You are sorry he was hurt You still value their friendship and to show it you'd like to take them out to dinner next time they are in town.
