My poor puppy! He can't walk
on our floors! We had put down the pergo laminate floors over our entire downstairs except for the mud room and kitchen- tile. He was fine for a while - months!- until he fell down our stairs (he was fine except now he has a complex) and refuses to walk on the floors that don't have an area rug over them! Which is a lot of floor!!!!!!He only stays on the carpet and if he has to get to the kitchen or mudroom- where we keep his food- he panics, gets nervous and slides all over them. When he gets nervous he pees- so he leaves a trail of pee.
Other times he is fine and can walk over them- when he's not paying attention to it. My DH and I are beside ourselves since we feel sorry for him but don't know what to do! We've tried rewards for walking on the floors, coaxing, etc but with little success. I need a doggy shrink!
He will also not go upstairs anymore which is sad too b/c if my DH and I are up here working in the office or just being lazy in bed, he wants to be with us and cries.
Anyone have anything like this happen to thir pet?

Re: My poor puppy! He can't walk
OH MY...they silly stuff we went through with our dog last year. He is now a year and 3 mos but he was a hoot last year.I really wouldn't worry about it. Our dog wouldn't go into the kitchen and it just took him trying it on his own and rewards. He got used to it VERY fast...especially since his food was in there.
I could go on and on about the stories we have. We had to change his bowl becuase the plastic was giving him pimples...well he didn't like that..i had to retrain him to go to a metal one.

Re: My poor puppy! He can't walk
We didn't have this problem...our dog would just slide around the wood floors and eventually he figured it out.But how we DID get the dog to get used to getting into the bathtub is we would randomly leave treats for him to go in and find.
So maybe if you leave some pup treats on and about the pergo he'll be more inclined to venture off the carpet...

Thanks susan! That sounds like a good idea. I should put his favorite treats off of the carpeted area for him to venture out and try to get them. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this works!

You can get a runner so the dog feels like he has good traction. Thats what we did years ago when we had a dog that wouldn't walk on our kitchen floor.

Lora, Susan's idea sounds like the best you can do at this point. When presenting the treats on the new floors starts to work, I would slowly wean him off of it so he doesn't only walk on them for treats. He'll get the picture that it's not so bad in a little while.![]()
