HM - Travel agent VS DIY

Is either option a better idea? I have heard that online prices are usually better, but travel agents can throw extra things in that you might not have even known about if you booked yourself....

Any opinions either way?

Re: HM - Travel agent VS DIY

I think it depends on what you want to do and how much time you have. We want to do something thats not super traditional and my FH doesn't have the time to research 6 HM locations. So we ended finding a person who specializes in exotic honeymoons to do all that for us. You could also see if you can get some quotes from travel agents and check online as well if you know what you want.

Re: HM - Travel agent VS DIY

FH has been researching like a madman and could book all if we decide. But yesterday he sent itinerary to AAA to see if they can come up with any better rates than was able to find.

Re: HM - Travel agent VS DIY

All I know is that my FSIl and her hubby just went to the Bahamas and they booked through an agent, and got upgrades galore, plus the agent made dinner reservations for them....sounds like stuff I'd rather let someone else do for me.....but I am looking to save money!

Re: HM - Travel agent VS DIY

it totally depends on what you want to do - If you want to take a cruise or go to a place like disney I would book yourself since you can get a better dea on your ownl -

If you are going to Europe or a place you have never been before (say hawaii, Tahiti, etc - driving down the coast of California etc) you are better with an agent who knows all the hotels and can get those perks for you.

Re: HM - Travel agent VS DIY

We are planning (after much deliberation) to go to somewhere in the Carribean, followed by some time in the Florida Keys, so I don't know if I really need a travel agent.....
I'm confused!

Re: HM - Travel agent VS DIY

If you are going down to the Carribean I would use a travel agent - They will be most likely able to better neg. airfare, and tell you the difference between different hotels and get you perks. However if you are going to some place like San Juan you can do that yourself most likely.

The other thing is you can talk to an agent then try to price it yourself and see how you do.
