Im fustrated about this too.. I didnt think of it at first with my budget and now seeing how much everyone expects to be tipped and what everyone is tipping EVERYONE its adding sooo much money. I mean when you get married everyone and there mother requires a big tip!!

Honestly I really don't think its necessary unless a vendor goes above and beyond expectations. I mean the places I've been dealing with already charge an arm and a leg and I just want to enjoy the day not worry about tips and what's good or not. Most halls charge 20% charges alreay so how much money should they get. I beleive in limits and I think that you shouldn't get carried away. I guess my biggest peeve is people who work for themselves who work on their own. The pocket everything why on earth should they get a tip? It's not like a hairstylist at a salon where most their money is split with the salon. If you work on your own and you are making cash what;s the point?

we did not tip any vendors that owned their own business - i did not see the point of it.

Yeah, I'm really confused on this issue...My main concern is with the band. I have a situation now where we have the option of adding an extra instrument to play certain songs that really do require it. However, if we do this AND give a tip we are totally blowing our budget.
What is standard practice? Do musicians count on the extra tips? What would be considered 'average' for a 7 piece band?
Help!
edited to add: the band leader acts as the agent, so they are not tied to a larger company

keep in mind that you should also feed your vendors and that cost $$$. I am feeding my DJ/MC, photographer, 2 of them and videographers. They will be with me all day.. I was told I HAVE to feed them. And it cost 1/3 of my price per person. so that adds up!

i figured that into my original guest count and budget - that was a given to me, but i know that many people forget to do so and it does add up in the end...
