best man told us he isn't coming to the wedding now
seems he wants to get married next year himself and just bought a house this year which he now needs to refinance to afford the wedding.!!!!
and you're waiting until NOW to tell this to us?
ok granted we knew in november that you were 'iffy' but you'd let us know.
but for heaven's sakes, he's known about the wedding since nov 2002 and now 3 months beforehand he's telling us this? thanks buddy!
it wouldn't be that bad if he said from the start of everything that he wasn't sure and maybe ask someone else to be best man. but now we are uneven and FH wants to ask his father to be his best man. Which I think is sweet. It's going to be weird with his dad escorting my 26 year old sister back up the aisle after the mass, and the first dance, but we'll work it out somehow.
i'm more ticked off about the best man.
oh and he has the balls to say he wants us at his wedding and for FH to be one of his groomsmen! FH better not say OK because I will tear a new one for him if he does. We already have 2 weddings in Ireland in the fall and winter 2004, another one in july we can't go to (well maybe...depends on when it is and if we can stay with family), and it's like oh you can't come to ours but you want us to come to yours? hell no! we have bills too you know.
on the upside he was very very apologetic (but a little to late) and he did say he knew he was being a 'cheeky ba$tard' for asking us to his wedding and all that, so it's not like he doesn't know he's letting FH down.
It's just annoying and FH is really down about it.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that!!
It's nice that your FH wants to ask his dad though. That was my FH's first feeling who he wanted to ask as well but he asked his brother instead.

That guy's a d!ck. If I was your FH, I wouldn't be speaking with him anymore, let alone being in his wedding.

Re: best man told us he isn't coming to the wedding now
How insensitive! He is getting married next year and is refinancing his house, so what does that have to do w/ your wedding? Obviously it is a $$$ issue.I don't get it though. Is he stilll panning on attending the wedding and won't he have to buy a gift? Why not tell him to forego the gift and use the $$ towards renting the wedding attire. Really, it's not that epensive to rent a tux/suit.

I am sorry, that is so horrible. Personally he does not sound like a good friend and I think your FI would be much better picking his dad to stand up for him. This happened to my friends husband and he was really crushed, so I can imagine how upset your FI must be.

please, tell me how you REALLY feel!
there's more to it than meets the eye. where fh is from, it's more relaxed when it comes ot weddings and all that. but still it's no excuse.
fh is upset and i doubt we'll go to the wedding unless it's close to christmas since we'll be in ireland then anyway for holidays. but not talk to him i don't know. maybe, maybe not.
it's up to him. i never met the guy actually. fh came to ny in 2001. the guy still lives over there.

Re: best man told us he isn't coming to the wedding now
As for one guy doubling up, that might work and then my friend can dance with her husband. But I think we'll ask his dad and then his dad can dance with his sister and my sister can dance with one of the other groomsmen and then a bridesmaid can dance with her husband. or FFIL can dance with my sister. Will look awkward but hey it's a 1 minute dance, and she may not mind.
