Have a question about church/hall timeline ????
Since we decided to get married at the church and its a sunday they told us the only time they can have it is at 3:30. Now if its an hour mass and then the actual ceremony, and then you have some pictures and recieving line.. im just wondering if I should push my cocktail hour at the hall back - its supposed to start at 6. Its about 15-20 min from the church to the hall. Does anyone know how long total the church will probably take? should I push the cocktail hour back or no??

Re: Have a question about church/hall timeline ????
My church is at 3 and cocktail hour is 6. I am only having a ceremony and I think I will need the 3 hrs in between. You want to make it for 7? I think that would be a good time.

Ets...if you meant to make it earlier I think you need time for pictures so no earlier than 6 IMO.

No i definitly ment should I make it later.. I cant really take pics outside b/c its feb. but will need to take pictures in the church and I wasnt sure how long that plus the recieving line will take.. plus I want to give people enough time to get to the hall without the cocktail hour being half over already!!

Since youre having a Mass I would maybe make it 630-7 so you have plenty of time for pics too
I wanted 3 hrs in between to not rush.

I think yoru times are fine UNLESS you want to be at your entire CH. The mass and ceremony are an hour, then receiving line and pics you should be done at your church and in your limos on to the next location by 5. that gives you at least 40 minutes! I would keep it the same and then attend 1/2 your CH. If you want to be at the whole CH then push it back a half hour!

Re: Have a question about church/hall timeline ????
I also had a full mass on a Sunday that started at 3:30pm with cocktail hour starting at 6pm. We were done in an hour and on our way to the reception hall by 4:45pm. Our hall was also a 40 minute ride, so we took photos through our cocktail hour (since we didn't plan on going to the cocktail hour). If your reception hall is only 15 minutes from church, I think the 6pm cocktail hour is fine.

If the reception is only 15 minutes away from the church I would leave it. The receiving line goes a lot quicker than you think! You will have plenty of time for pictures at the church and at the reception!

I totally agree. If you REALLY don't want to be at your CH then you don't have to change it but if you do (and as your pBM I recommend reconsidering not being around for the CH -- you're paying for it and your going to miss out on it! Plus you get alot of guest greeting out of the way so that you can enjoy your party later) then I would say push it back to 6:30pm or 7pm.

Re: Have a question about church/hall timeline ????
jimmysbride - you really are the best pBM. You really think should go to the CH? I just assumed that we would be taking pictures the whole time anyway.. maybe its just the wedding i've been too... but I think the first time I saw the bride and groom after the church was when they were announced as the new mr and mrs etc. Im confussed!!!

Re: Have a question about church/hall timeline ????
I think I'm in the minority here...My timeline as it stands (subject to change) is
2:00 ceremony
4:00 cocktail hour/reception
30-40 minute drive in between
we will have a receiving line at the church as well as all of our posed family shots (hopefully the photos will take no longer than 15 minutes, 20 minutes MAX). our family is small and guest list is about 100.
my main priority for the day logistically speaking is that everything 'flows'. i don't want guests waiting around not knowing what to do or where to go. i don't want to delay things for the sake of pictures. i also want to spend time at my cocktail hour, most of my shots will be photo journalistic so the photographer will follow our lead and capture the events of the day however they turn out.

I had extra time so we could make our CH. I dont want to miss that. If you dont mind not going to that then you should be ok.

Re: Have a question about church/hall timeline ????
FYI - Some churches will not do a full mass on Sundays. You might already have confirmed this, I just wanted to share what I've learned...

Re: Have a question about church/hall timeline ????
actually .. we wound up getting the 1 hour mass by accident.. the priest was on the phone with FH and goes were you looking for the traditional or something else.. he had no idea what that ment.. instead of asking.. he just answered traditional lol and thats the story of our hour long mass. Its ok though we thought about it and since the whole day IS about the ceremony and such we decided it was better this way.
