What Stupid Little Things Annoy You? (Vent Thread)

I'm sure this has been done before, but lets have a thread on stupid things that really get to you!

Here's one for me that prompted this thread:

I Hate it when a picture on the internet says 'click to enlarge' you click on it, and a new window pops up with the picture that is the Same Size!!! It drives me nuts!!!

hands down, people who talk (LOUDLY) on their cellphones on the train is my big pet peeve.

I can handle a call to say 'hi hon, I'm on the 6:42 train,' etc. But when I have to overhear your personal business ad nauseum ... !! UGH!!

(sorry .. I'm grouchy , its been a long week of commuting... LOL

I am no ettiquette expert, but I try very hard.

SO I will say people do not know simple social rules:

i.e, if you are invited to someone's home for dinner Do NOT show up emptyhanded.

Also, people who are selfish and do not like to help others.

Oh and I have another. When people write 'your' when they should use 'you're' or vice versa, i.e. 'Maybe sometime when your in town, you can stop by.'

This is fun! Where do I start? I'm one of those 'sweat the small stuff' people, though I really try not to be!

Big pet peeves:

People who tailgate (well, I guess this one is dangerous, so maybe it isn't a 'stupid little thing')

People who let their giant dogs run around unleashed

People who CONSTANTLY breathe through their mouth instead of their nose (could be caused by some illness, I know, BUT...)

Oh, there are many, many more... heh heh...

I am totally with you re: grammatical errors. I can't help myself, and I get especially crazy when the error appears on a sign. Example: the 'Ten Items or Less' sign that frequently appears in supermarkets!

Yes! I hate incorrect signs! Shouldn't the person typesetting the sign point out gramattical errors???? just a thought...

These are just 2

1. When people use the letter o as a number. O is a letter zero is a #.
2. When people say ' I'm Done'. People are 'finished', food is 'done'.

The 2nd one is because of my mother constintly saying that to me as a child. The 1st one is just my own weird qurik.

Am I totally missing something, or is there really a mistake in 'Ten Items or Less'?????

Speaking of grammatical errors, I can't stand it when people use an apostrophe where it doesn't belong or pluralize things that shouldn't be pluralized.
For example: My BM's are throwing me a shower.
(sweetadeline, did you mean to say 'Ten Item's or Less'??? That would bug me!)

And it's not Victoria's Secrets (it's SECRET!)

I share so many of these!! the your thing gets me...and to take my own advice, yesterday I had to edit my own post full of 'your' instead of 'you're'

I HATE HATE HATE when people don't signal, espcially when they're making a left on busy, 2 lane streets -- if I knew you were turning, I wouldn't have gotten behind you!!

And when the schmuck attorney in my office speaks. Drives me up a wall!

Gramatical errors are my biggest pet peeve especially when they are in an email sent to the entire company!!

Now you'll see how truly nitpicky I am! Note: I am a nerdy English teacher!

'Ten Items or Less' should really be 'Ten Items or Fewer.' Quick explanation: 'fewer' is used when the items in question can be counted, but 'less' is used for items that can't be counted.

For instance, it would be correct to say, 'We got less rain this year than we did last year.' Rain can't be counted. BUT if you were talking about inches of rain, it'd be correct to say, 'We got fewer inches of rain this year.'

Some stores have already changed the signs!

Oh, I also hate the incorrect use of apostrophes! 'Ten Item's or Less' would really set me off!
