Nassau drivers may have to pay more when registering vehicles


(01/25/04) MINEOLA - If you drive in Nassau County you may soon need to shell out more money. Nassau lawmakers are set to vote on a proposed fee hike for registering your car.
County Democrats say an increase on vehicle registration will get the green light Monday. If approved, rates will jump from $5 to $15 for cars, and from $10 to $40 for commercial vehicles.

Republicans say they will try to put the brakes on the registration hike because they say drivers in Nassau should not have to pay more when Nassau doesn't need the money. The GOP blames the Souzzi administration for not being honest about money matters.

Legislators are set to vote on the measure at Monday night's meeting.
