Infant Jesus Church - Port Jeff
Horror story alert. My sister's wedding was on January 10th (you know the day it was 9 degrees.) Well apparently the priest did not think the suggested donation my sister's groom gave before the ceremony was enough, so when we all arrived in the back of the church, the priest came up to my dad asking for money, $300 to be exact, which he was not carrying on him, so the moron priest went up to the bride, my sister on the day of her wedding and asked for money, not once but a few times!!! This should be a NO NO. So there was major confusion because she didn't realize that he already received his envelope and he was looking for more money. In the end my cousin's husband missed the ceremony because he had to go to an ATM machine and get money. Just so you know my sister was not giving the full 'suggested donation' to the church because they really were horrible to deal with and she didn't feel they deserved the full amount. I just wanted to vent about this because this really ticked me off. A bride does not need this added stress on her wedding day.

Re: Infant Jesus Church - Port Jeff
I am getting married at Infant Jesus . . . I never realized that there was a choice or a 'suggested' donation. I interpreted that you HAVE to give $600 or $650 - whatever it is. I can understand if they treated your sister poorly, then she shouldn't give the 'suggested amount' but I guess I am just interpreting it differently . . . I equate it to any other vendor . . . If you end up not liking your DJ for example, you still have to pay the full amount.I think that how it was handled by the priest was COMPLETELY inappropriate and am thankful that a friend of the family who is a priest is marrying us there.
Some churches are not the way churches used to be. Many churches REQUIRE a SPECIFIED amount of money now, which is a shame because it kind of changes how people view religion, I know it has for me, but that is a whole different topic that we won't discuss.
Sorry to hear about your sister's bad experience . . .

Re: Infant Jesus Church - Port Jeff
I think they view it as a set fee, they just have to call it a suggested donation to keep their status as a non-profit organization.

Well, this should have been discussed prior to the wedding. Our church told us when we met with the music director.
That was uncalled for on th eday of YOUR wedding.

Re: Infant Jesus Church - Port Jeff
Our music director also tipped us off that it's traditional to pay everyone during the rehearsal.I've had it up to here with the Catholic church!!! When we called Infant Jesus, they were so rude to us--my mom and dad got married there 30 years ago and they wouldn't even consider doing my wedding because we were not members of the parish.
IMO if it says 'suggested' donation, then they have NO RIGHT to chase you for money if you haven't given the full amount!! If they want to maintain their not-for-profit status, then they can't dictate how much people donate!! it's just disgusting! they give you such a hard time and then wonder why no one goes to church!
