another pet question

my ffil, fmil and fh are constantly giving my puppy table food, i did not want them to do this, and now everytime you eat she is constantly jumping on you, crying and barking. i hate it, and when she does this fh justs hands her food from what he's eating. i always tell him not to do it, but he never listens. how do i get her to stop wanting people food and to leave us alone while were trying to eat?

Re: another pet question

We made this mistake in the begining with the table food and now eating at home is a nightmare..

Stop giving the dog table food right away and eventually they will stop the begging.

I am trying so hard to do this but DH still does..

Re: another pet question

This is one thing my FH and I do not do...My sister's dog begs and begs.....I would try the Apple Bitter Spray and spray her by the mouth when she jumps up...she should eventually learn...I also give my dog real food, instead of dog food for her meals...she does not beg at all..

Re: another pet question

its gonna take a really long time for the dog to stop begging now. all you can do is be strict and stop feeding the dog.

Re: another pet question

We had my pup trained to do a down/stay away from the table when we ate. My parents were staying with us and even though I told them she's NEVER to receive food while anyone is sitting at the table, my mom fed her and she's been a nightmare ever since. We're still in the process of retraining her and even though she's not so bad with DH and I, when we have new people over she'll always try to get food, I guess hoping they don't know the 'rules' of the house.

For now though, when she comes to the table, I point to her spot away from the table and say 'GO TO YOUR SPOT' or 'GO TO BED!' which means to go lie down on her bed in the family room. If she obeys, I'll get up from the table and give her a treat. If she stays down in either place, I'll get up periodically and treat her. She's slowly figuring out that if she stays put in one spot she'll get something so I'm trying to work her back up to staying the entire meal.

OR sometimes after a few rounds of begging with no response except people shouting NO! at her, she just gives up and goes to her bed anyway.

I am guilty of feeding our dog but we have vitamin gravy for the dog...I squirt a little on his food and he doesn't bother me at all!!!
