Has anyone ever had to give your own credit card number for blocking hotel rooms?

I want to block rooms at the Huntington Hilton and I think they want a credit card number from me to have in case there is damage or someone does not pay. Did anyone else have to do this? It seems weird. I am also blocking rooms at the Smithtown Sheraton and they are not asking for this.

I had to give them my card number in case I cancelled the contract...they would charge me.

For blocking rooms? I thought that if the rooms were not taken, they put them back in the general pool at the normal price. If one of my guests cancels a room, wouldn't they charge that guest, not me?

Any hotel that charges YOU for blocking off rooms can be skipped over. There are plenty of hotels that won't. You shouldn't need to give a credit card.

NO! I checked out 2 hotels and neither one asked for it nor would I use a hotel that asked for it.

Re: Has anyone ever had to give your own credit card number for blocking hotel rooms?

That's what I was thinking too. The Sheraton didn't ask for it. I left a message for the woman over at the Hilton to talk to her about this. I really wanted to block rooms there but if they have to have a credit card number, then I will go elsewhere.

Thanks for your advice and help.

I personally do not like that idea. I don't want to be liable for my guests if they don't show.

Many hotels do not do that. The guest is reliable, period.

I agree 100%. I have rooms blocked at the Inn at Fox Hollow and they did not require my CC for anything. They had said if the rooms were not booked by the date given it would be put back into general reservations.

You should NOT have to leave your cc#. I blocked at the Wingate and Red Roof Inn and didn't leave a number with either. You are not reserving rooms - you're blocking. You shouldn't be responsible for anything.
