Has anyone grieved their Property taxes?

I got these letters in the mail saying that this law firm would grieve my taxes for me. The catch is that they take 50% of the reduction if I win.

Anyone ever do this? Just wondering if it was worth it?

Do you mean challenging the Nassau COunty reassessment. My mom did. Her's didn't change, but it made her feel better that she'd tried. I'm calling for the forms today.

Re: Has anyone grieved their Property taxes?

Yes when I lived in Selden I did it twice through the grieve place in Centereach and yes it was so worth it the first year they saved me almost $400 I paid them $200 so I still saved $200 the next year I saved the $400 then after that (2 years) you can grieve again and they saved me $150 more.

Re: Has anyone grieved their Property taxes?

Yes I mean challenge the property tax assessment. DH thought we should sign up but I just wanted to make sure this was legit. Apparently these are firms that specialize in challenging the taxes. Thanks ladies.

Re: Has anyone grieved their Property taxes?

Yes, it is legit. For commercial properties, these attorneys usually get 33% plus expenses.

Does the 50% include their expenses too?

Re: Has anyone grieved their Property taxes?

We looked into it last year and were told that we had to wait a while longer because if you recently purchased the house the purchase price is used and we wouldn't get anywhere.

Worse - we called to find out what was going on with our Star program rebate, and it turns out that the reassesements and library tax ate up most of our $900+ Star rebate! We're only seeing about a $15 drop on our taxes!
