Bulldogs? Chihuahuas sp?
My DH is so into us becoming dog owners, now we are in love with bulldogs, but the vet and medical expenses are getting me scared. Our friend's have a pug that DH is in love with, but he is also into chihauhas, I need to learn how to spell that, lol. I think he wants a chihauau to kind of be our baby since we have a couple of more years as just the two of us? I picture these little yappy ankle biters? does anyone have one? Thanks, I would love to surprise DH on Father's Day with one!!!! I know that sounds sick, but I think it would be funny

I would go with the PUG. A friend of mine has 3 chuahuas and they are 'ankle biters'. I am affraid when I leave the house, because they always come running to nip you. I Hate Them and I love dogs... I have Dachshunds and they are the best. Most loving dog you will ever incounter. Can't hurt an ant, but PUGS are cute too. My sister has a pug and they are snuggly!

Re: Bulldogs? Chihuahuas sp?
I'm personally biased because I'm now forced to take a series of rabies shots as a result of a nasty little mexican chiuaua(sp?) but I'd go for the bulldog. With pet health insurance the cost (and health concerns) are dramatically reduced (at least the financial impact is reduced). Plus Bulldogs are just so even tempered.

We got an Olde English Bulldogge, since my DH realy wanted a English Bulldog, but we heard many bad sotreis about them. He is a bit taller then a regular Bulldog, but with the same temperment, and look. THye ahve tried to eliminate the bad qualities of the English Bulldogs, hip dysplasia, breathing pioblems etc. I would definitly say to look into them.

We are biased to both Pugs and Chiauhas..we have 1 pug - he is VERY hyper and sheds like mad- he also likes to do things his way- very stubborn-but lovablethe 2 little guys are the most lovable dogs you ever met..and they are NOT ankle biters at all..they only want affection ..
all 3 get along great!
here they are-

Re: Bulldogs? Chihuahuas sp?
We have an English Bulldog. She was 1 in December. They are known to have mediacal problems and they are expensive (we paid $2400) but she is a great dog. She's great with my son, but still gets alittle would up when we have company. She does shed a bit more than I thought she would as well. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

Re: Bulldogs? Chihuahuas sp?
Pugs are great dogs if you want a dog that is very loveable and at the same time has a personality. I own two pugs and I can honestly say they are my favorite dogs. I think though, you have to be aware that pugs can have a lot of medical problems as well and depends on how much you research the breeders and such. At the same time, I think any dog can be very expensive when it comes to vet bills.I can honestly recommend them to anyone though when it comes down to perhaps having a family some day. My two look forward to my nieces and nefews coming over because they just love kids. Even when we take them for walks, they get so excited when kids are around, and for that matter any person who is willing to bend over and pet them.
The one other downside is that they do typically shed a lot. Fawns seem to more so than the blacks because typically the fawns have a thicker coat (double coat.)

Re: Bulldogs? Chihuahuas sp?
My neighbor has a chihuahua. He's really sweet and great with kids (the neighbor has two very young grandchildren who stay with her part of the day). He almost never barks. He's good with other dogs, too. The only two problems they've had are:1. He HATES the cold weather and pretty much has to be forced outside... poor little guy! I can relate!
2. He's a very picky eater. He hates all kinds of dog food and dog snacks -- my neighbor boils beef and rice for him every day!
Having said that, I really think that it's hard to predict a dog's temperament based on his/her breed. A lot of dog behavior -- how s/he expresses his/her personality -- is based on training as well.
Good luck!
