Sept Brides..Are you going on a caribbean honeymoon?
So we are looking into going to Sandals Jamaica for our honeymoon. But so many people warn me of hurricane season. Is anyone else real worried about this? It is at the beginning of Sept, when does hurricane season start?

Re: Sept Brides..Are you going on a caribbean honeymoon?
I would not worry about it ; I went to the Virgin islands in the fall one year, and the weather was great! My parents cruise EVERY YEAR to either Bermuda or the Carribbean ..always in September.. and have never ONCE had a problem. Go Figure!!
of course there are always exceptions - but I wouldn't let that stop you! And the prices are a lot better during hurricane season!
ETA: I'm not sure exactly when hurricane season officially starts, but I though it was around Labor Day weekend, i.e., the beginning of September

We are sooo nervous, we have no idea what to do... We were talking about Aruba yesterday, but honestly, we haven't found any top of the line places to stay there.... who knows.

Re: Sept Brides..Are you going on a caribbean honeymoon?
I'm not positive, but I was told that hurricane season (technically) starts in the beginning of summer or late spring and lasts into fall. But I think it really picks up in Sept/Oct though - as it does up here.We decided against the caribbean for a HM - we didn't want to take the chances. You can take out insurance and if you go through Sandal's, they will reimburse you an entire vacation if you happen to get stuck in a hurricane. Even if it hits on your last day, so I'm told!
ETA: Places like the ABC Islands, St Vincent and the Grenadines - are outside of the hurricane belt.

Re: Sept Brides..Are you going on a caribbean honeymoon?
My understanding was that Hurricane season was from June - October. But don't let this bother you unless you're not willing to take the chance. My FH and I went to Marco Island last July and had no problem with weather (it's in the Gulf). It's up to you what you do but I completely understand. My FH and I want to go to Cabo in September - the rainy time of the year of course but we figure we'll take our chances and make the most of it since we really want to go.

Unless there's an actual hurricane, which is fairly unlikely, you should be fine. Usually when it rains during that time of the year it doesn't last for more than a half hour. I've been to the Carribean the past two Septembers and haven't had any problems. Another good thing, when it does rain, it's usually in the evening.

I'm a September bride too. Everyone keeps telling me not to go on a cruise because of that same reason. I am ok with that but my Fiance really wants to do the cruise thing. I am not one for planes either so we really don't know what we are going to do!

Re: Sept Brides..Are you going on a caribbean honeymoon?
I am going to Europe on my HM but I am from the Caribbean and there are no real hurricanes. We have a rainy and dry season that ios pretty much it. The hurricane season is more like a heavy rain. I would not worry about it.Welcome New Vendors
