house rental vs. catering facility
i am anticipating 85 guests. does anyone know the comparison in prices? i would need to rent tent, tables, linens, china etc. i want something intimate and relaxed but don't know if this would add up and be too stressful. i don't want to spend more than 85.00 a guest.

Re: house rental vs. catering facility
DH and I looked into some house rentals in the Hamptons and we were getting quotes of $150 p/head just to use the house (but they are negotiable)...guests were not allowed in, only the bridal party. We even tried to figure out the expense to have the wedding in our backyard, but with the cost of the tent, executive-port-a-potties, valet service, etc. it just got too high. We were also concerned about bad weather (we were married in September - aka Hurricane Season), so we decided to go with an indoor/outdoor 'facility' that could accommodate our guests instead.

Sometimes it runs alot more than a reception hall can be. There are alot of reasonably priced halls, like the Huntington Town House, and for the amount of people your having you might be good at George Washington Manor. Ask around about prices but the girls should be able to help you find a place in your range. Start a new post about cattering halls under $85 per person with the minimum you need.Bridget

The Milleridge Carriage house might be good for you.I wanted soemthing intimate & low key as well. We are having about 80-90 people. It is owned by the same people as the George Washington Manor.
It would probably work out to be less $$ than renting a house.

I am sure you could get a catering ahll for that amount. I have a minimum guarantee of 75 at my hall. You should look around at some more catering halls on the island, I know the Metroplitan would work for you.

You can find a hall in that price range, and you wouldn't have all the hassle of setting up and worrying about all the rentals arriving.
