I had a HORRIBLE Day! (M)

Sometimes I feel that I am in high school instead of teach high school. I have posted about my friend who is being abused by her jerk of a husband. Well today I was talking with another teacher and she was asking how things were going with the other abused teacher. I said it was getting better. So she turns to me and says 'Well, that's why people don't want to go out to happy hour any more because you two have become such a pair' I was so thrown off by this comment that I began to cry. I am usually totally in control of my emotions. I was amazed at this woman's reaction. I though to myself 'In a school were we teach tolerance and kindness, you don't want to be bothered helping some one who doesn't have a support network.' I teach in a Catholic school and as un-Catholic as I am at times, I would never turn my back on some one in need. I was really hurt by this person's comment. I felt as if I was being punished for being her friend. I feel like people are punishing me for helping her b/c they don't agree with the choice that she made in her life. Mind you, the H is a total loser. However, the way I look at it is that it is not MY life and if I could be the person that helps this girl break away from an abusive relationship then I will continue to do so. I cannot imagine what it would be like to sit back and watch this woman get beaten to a pulp or worse turn up dead some where.

Am I wrong? Am I crazy? I just don't understand. Thanks for letting me vent!

Re: I had a HORRIBLE Day! (M)

i think you are certainly a wonderful friend - its importnat that even if your friend chooses not to leave her h, she still needs someone to talk to and someone who is there for her - so she doesn't feel more isolated - and you are that person. screw anyone else on your staff - you know the meaning of the word friend!

cheer up and take comfort in that!

Re: I had a HORRIBLE Day! (M)

I have heard from a few people that teaching in high school makes some of the teachers act like they are still in high school. Not only was that a childish and stupid comment, it was uncalled for.
don't discuss your friend anymore with these people. it is NONE of their business.
I would, in fact, stay clear of this mean-spirited person.

What a jerk! Some people just never grow up. I would try to stay away from this person.
Sounds like she is jealous of your friendship with the other one. I also wouldn't even let them know anything about your friend, just say you don't know. Its not their business.

WOW! I'm so sorry you had a bad day! In a case like that you have to ignore ignorant comments. Please don't make silly things like that turn your day sour. That women sounds like she's a teenager as you said. My BIL teaches high school and had to transfer recently b/c the staff and the students where driving him crazy. Keep focused, you are being a true friend and they are just JEALOUS that you are not paying them as much attention. Next time, tell her to GET A LIFE!
