Wedding CAke card holder

Does anyone know directions on how to make this? I saw a thread a while back and want to make one from hat boxes ( I believe that's how it's done) for my FSIL.. thanks!

Re: Wedding CAke card holder

I'm not sure how to make it yourself, but I got mine from Lillian Vernon and it's really cute and cheap too...check out their website.

Re: Wedding CAke card holder

Do you mean like this???

I don't know how to make this though. Lillian Vernon discontinued theirs. It was great too with personalization. I'm buying a regular white mailbox on line and I'm going to decorate it with my lace, satin and flowers in my wedding colors. I'm also a mail carrier so it sort of 'fits'...

Re: Wedding CAke card holder

i don't get it. i am assuming your guests use the box to put the envelopes in, but from my experience the guests usually hand them to the couple personally when they do their rounds.

Re: Wedding CAke card holder

Yes people can hand you their cards, but most of the weddings I have been to recently have had card holders, whether it is a box, a bird cage, and various other things

Re: Wedding CAke card holder

I finally found the post

forget who posted this but I saved it to make your own card cake HTH

I went to Michaels and bought plain round boxes. (they are brown) 3 sizes. Each one smaller than the next. I cut the bottom off the smallest and middle size. I placed the small one on top of the middle one and traced around. Then cut a whole in the top of the middle one. As close to the circle you drew as possible but not right on it. Do the same with the middle box on top of the bottom. This allows the cards to fall to the bottm box. I painted them all white. Then glued the small box to the middle one and the middle to the bottom one. (you can glue the tops on the boxes for extra 'security' if you want. Then I glued flowers and ribbon on it to decorate it.
Sounds complicated but was actually easy.
You actually may want to cut a little bit insides the circle. You want the boxes to cover the holes you cut out. So you need to leave enough room to glue the box on top of the hole. Does that make sense?
God I wish we had drawing tools.

Picture that to be the bottom (biggest box) and the 'mouth is the hole you cut. The middle bos (which is smaller than the bottom) should cove the entire hole.

I think I am over explaining. Let me know if this helps. It didn't take me that long to do and I think it cost me under $10.
