Does anyone elso think ordering china is pointless?
Everyone I know says they never use their good china and it just sits there. MOB says I have to have a china pattern but I think there are other gifts that I would rather put on my registry. Anyone agree?

Totally agree - we wound up registering for something that could be used as Formal and/or Informal.

I TOTALLY did not want to register for China. I knew (know) I'd never use it. But everyone who is already married and older said, 'in the future when you may want it for holidays, whatever, then you won't have it and you'll have to buy it for yourself and it's expensive - so let people get it for you now.' Not the worst advice, so we registered for it. Maybe if I ever get a China closet I'll just display it!

Re: Does anyone elso think ordering china is pointless?
We didnt register for China.Just for us we thought it was stupid. We couldnt see us using fine China in our apt (when and if we get an apt) nor do we see ourselves worrying over that type of plateware. We did register for nice new set of plates. But nothing like China.
Same goes for Crystal & Flatware.
We like to change things up and couldnt imagine wasting that much money on something we'll change later. Then the expensive stuff just wastes away and gets dusty in a box.
We rather have a functional and strudy teapot than a fancy dancy decorated one.
That's just us tho.

I didnt see myself doing it either, refused to but I saw a post on here of some that could pass as formal as well as casual...mikasa china...so I registered for it, I like that it comes with nugs and not saucers....something like this may be what you want , they have a lot like this, semi-formal if ya look around, I will use this for holidays and my everyday for well..everyday...

Re: Does anyone elso think ordering china is pointless?
I was in this boat too, and then I realized that I do want a family down the road though, and i plan on getting a house eventually, and I will want China for large family holiday dinners and stuff. We won't always be the young kids going over to other people's places - in like 10 years people will be coming over to us. So I found a set that wasn't that expensive and went for it.

We didnt register for china either... first of all, we know we would rarely use it, second, we need EVERYTHING, so i would rather get tons of stuff for everyday rather than several place settings that cost $$$.

We just aren't fine china people, and we probably never will be. It's so pretty, but so useless in our household.

same here. My mom ALWAYS used her china for holidays and i always loved it. I'd like to carry on that tradition. But we registered for an inexpensive set too, so it won't seem TOO frivolous.
and we are also big cookers... i cooked xmas dinner this past year and i loved it.

Re: Does anyone elso think ordering china is pointless?
We didn't register for China- neither of us had a desire for it or see a point in having thousands of dollars worth of dishes that rarely get used... But we did get everyday dishes (Correlle) and a 'nicer' set of dishes for company (Pfaltzgraff)... For the two sets together it was probably less than half of what China would have cost!

Re: Does anyone elso think ordering china is pointless?
I didn't want to register for it, but my Mother-in-law insisted on me registering. So I did--and at my bridal shower, she gave me every single setting and all the extras. It was an extremely generous gift, but I know it is going to sit in my closet FOREVER!!
We don't even have a china cabinet as we live in an apartment--haha!!
