I was in this boat too, and then I realized that I do want a family down the road though, and i plan on getting a house eventually, and I will want China for large family holiday dinners and stuff. We won't always be the young kids going over to other people's places - in like 10 years people will be coming over to us. So I found a set that wasn't that expensive and went for it.

my thought exactly!! and we ended up withthe same set- Imagine that.
I love my casual dishes, but htey might be faded &scartched by the tiem I can afford a home large enough to host holidays!

I have a big-ish family, who was bugging me to register, so I figured why not put both, so at least we'll have it, but its totally not neccessary.
My grandma already bought me 4 sets of the fancy & my FIls 3 serving peices ( for engagement prsents), b/c they wanted to get us something substantial & traditional, so I'm glad I registered for it.

If you don't want to register for it then don't. We already have a very nice set of fine China that was my grandmother's and I can say that we have never used it.

Thanks for athe advise I was just telling my mom that people agreed w/me and she gave the usual 'then you'll never have it'. We still have time to decide but I thing cheaper everyday china is much more reasonable then dished that cost a fortune and come out of the closet 3 times a year.
