Re: I need ideas for an Irish related favor....
Recipe for irish soda bread done on nice recipe cards, along with box of raisins? (ok kinda dopey but it's early still)Shamrock cookie cutter
that's all i can think of
ETA: Irish tea bags. Lyon's is a brand that you can get over here. I don't know where your friend lives but there's an Irish shop in Rockville Centre on Park Ave (Kathleen's of Donegal) and they have. Maybe you can wrap a few in an orzanga bag (green one of course). With a cute saying on it?
Or Irish sweets. Flake is a brand of a chocoate candy bar that is big in Ireland.
Or this (how cute!!)
Claddagh Chocolate lollypops
Or Irish soaps

what about suncatchers? I know grandma has a few that are claddagh, celtic cross, shamrock, etcOr depending on the time of year, would christmas ornanments work?
Maybe any pieces of waterford crystal or the china (I think it's Royal Tara)
the sodabread recipe sounds good too.

Go to a store that specializes in Irish items - maybe you'll find something there.

Cheiftans (sp) I used to love to sit and listen to that when I was in college.
The irish such moving music! Luckily I had an Irish roommate in college and two Irish roommates while I lived in Queens.

Re: I need ideas for an Irish related favor....
Here's something I found as well...Many couples choose to get married on a particular
holiday and St. Patrick's Day brings a wealth of
fun opportunities to incorporate into an Irish
wedding theme. Here are some wedding favor ideas
that you can create for your St. Patrick's Day
(or Irish) themed wedding.
WEDDING FAVOR IDEAS
**Lucky Key Chains**
Give your guests a key chain with a lucky rabbit's foot, a lucky horseshoe or a shamrock.
**Lucky Four Leaf Clover Pot**
Paint a 2' terra cotta pot green. Decorate along rim with gold paint or small shamrock stickers. Seal the pot with acrylic spray sealer. Place small piece of florist foam in bottom. Glue in some Spanish moss on top. Paint a few wooden four-leaf clovers for each pot and add your names and wedding date to one. Glue clovers to wire or thin wooden dowels and insert into foam.
**Pot O' Gold**
Buy small cauldrons or buckets at a craft store. Paint a pewter color if needed. Fill with small gold-foil covered candies. Wrap in clear cellophane to hold candies in place.
**Irish Music CD or Tape**
Give your guests a selection of your favorite Irish music.
**Chocolates**
Fill Irish themed chocolate molds (either on a sucker stick or as individual chocolates) and wrap them in green cellephane with a green curly ribbon as decoration. Some chocolate mold ideas are: leprechaun hats, leprechaun figures, shamrocks, Irish derby hats, lucky horseshoes, rainbows, chocolate coins, and/or a lucky rabbit's foot.
IRISH SAYINGS FOR WEDDING FAVOR TAGS
Don't forget to add a favor tag to your wedding
favors, which include your names and your wedding
date. Here are a few Irish sayings and blessings
to add to your wedding tags:
++++++++++++++
Wherever you go and whatever you do,
May the luck of the Irish be there with you.
++++++++++++++
May your day be touched
by a bit of Irish luck,
brightened by a song in your heart,
and warmed by the smiles
of the people you love.
++++++++++++++
Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!
++++++++++++++
May your heart be light and happy,
May your smile be big and wide,
And may your pockets always have
a coin or two inside!
++++++++++++++
May you have all the happiness
and luck that life can hold—
And at the end of all your rainbows
may you find a pot of gold.
++++++++++++++
May you get all your wishes but one,
So you always have something to strive for.
++++++++++++++
May the love and protection St. Patrick can give
Be yours in abundance as long as you live.

Re: I need ideas for an Irish related favor....
I went to a shower with an Irish theme last year. The favors were very cute. They were very small ceramic pots. There was a shamrock sticker on the front of each one. Inside it was filled with scented soaps they had made in the shape of a gaelic knot. I think it originally had tulle inside between the pot and soap (I've since removed it, don't remember why). It is very pretty. I think the soaps are pear scented so they are a very light green.Have fun with it - whatever you do!

Re: I need ideas for an Irish related favor....
I just had my daughter's shower last week & you may like a variation of what I did as favors. Mine were large heart shaped sugar cookies (your's would be shamrock shaped) iced with pink royal icing (yours would be green) & then with the 1st initial of the bride's & groom's name piped on top in white. I then wrapped them in tuille, tied a little fake flower to hold the tuille together & used personalized ribbon that said Mary's bridal Shower March 13, 2004 to tie it all up. They were a big hit.
