Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

Ok girls - I am still debating over whether to throw rose petals outside after the ceremony.

So for those who are doing this I have a few questions:

Where are you getting your rose petals from?

Did they come in cones?

If not, where did you get the cones or did you make them?

If you put them together when did you do this - how far in advance?

If you did them in advance how did they hold up - Mom is fighting with me if we don't do them the night before or the morning of they will be disgusting. I asked her who was going to put them together and she said YOU I don't want to be bothered!

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

I'm getting mine from Petalgarden.com.

They sell the cones, but maybe you can find them on ebay or make them cheaper. All you need are some cheap paper doilies and hot glue gun.

I am buying the bulk imperfect petals (cracked, half petals) for the aisle carpet of rose petals. As for holding up....I got samples from them about a month ago, and I just opened the box...and they look perfect. They're freeze dried, but you can rehydrate them if you want by steaming them in the bathroom with the shower.

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

I'm making my cones. I'm using doilies but they are not very durable so I am doubling up on them. I posted about it recently and someone posted a picture of hers. They are really pretty with faux seals. I may tries those too. We'll see. Here's the thread I had posted...Petal cone thread

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

I definitely would not do it the before. What about getting the roses at price club and doing it the day of but just a few hours before. Maybe someone can do this for you?

maybe you can give the cones to your florist the week of the wedding and have them fill them. i can't imagine that being a problem for them.

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

You make the cones from a round circle, & just fold the bottom over, tighter than the top & you can staple it closed. M&M put a wax seal over the staple, but you can also use a self adhesive foil seal, like on wedding invite envelopes OR you can staple a piece of ribbon to the cone and tie it in a bow to cover the staple.

For a fancy one, you can use a lace doily, but some girls recommended against it since they are very delicate. You can buy fancy scissors from Michaels and cut circles that have a scalloped edge from thicker paper stock...colored or textured paper maybe.

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

Christine... I made cones. All I did was cut out 6' circles, then use labels with our names on them to keep them together. We are going to see the florist, Kevin, this weekend. He said he would fill them. Not sure if you are using him at all for any of the church stuff, but just a thought. All the cones are made already, so we are going to see if he wants them now (probably not) or a few days before the wedding. I made about 100 - we are thinking 150 guests.

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

Stefanie--did you buy the freeze dried rose petals. I do not think I will have enough time to get the roses together the day. I really do not want to worry about it. I think I will order the freeze dried ones, make the cones and have them all ready the night before.

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

I had rose petals thrown at my wedding and it was basically FREE..I bought my doilies from the dollar store..and the rose petals our florist threw in for free. I would contact yoru florist! I made up the cones ahead of time, just folded them into a cylinder shape and put them in a pretty basket that I bought CHEAP at homegoods, then when the florist delivered everything, my mil and sil filled the cones. Ive seen people really do a beautiful job on their cones..I personally didnt see that as necessary, they get thrown out in two seconds, so when I folded the cones, I used double sticky tape to kepe them closed, they really looked beautiful, the rose petals added color and the basket they were in was gorgeous. Good luck

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

we're getting freeze dried and using plain old white paper circles taped together to hold them - didnt see the point in putting alot of money into a holder

Re: Rose petals and cones for ceremony question!

My florist threw in the rose petals and delivered them to the house the morning of the wedding along with my personal flowers. My BMs filled up the cones and the limo guys carried them into the church and handed them out to the guests. It all worked out.
