So mad right now (vent)

FH sent me an email....someone from his work that was coming to the wedding, sent him an email that say she couldn't come...she said she didn't want to make the 2 hour drive to LI. She was sorry for the late notice.

The problem is that there were 5 people coming....and they were going to carpool. Now, we don't think any of them are going to come. I told FH he needs to ask these people ASAP. I already made all the placecards and did the seating chart. If they don't come...it's going to leave the table half empty....I'm so upset right now. Also...I will have to pay for 3 empty seats because if they all back out, I won't make my minimum. Sorry...just venting.

did they relpy as 'will attend'? i understand emergencies come up and the last minute, but 'too far to drive' is a lazy and unacceptable excuse. have FI ask them right away so that you can notify your hall. hopefully they will at least have the common courtesy to send a really nice gift.

ETA: if they don't come, maybe the hall can throw in some extra food at the cocktail hour. this does happen all the time and hopefully the hall will understand .

Sadly, you're not the first person to post about ignorant people backing out and it just burns me everytime I read a post like this. Where the heck were these people raised? The fact that they were even carpooling makes it worse, because it was obviously already thought out and decided. Could there big another reason they're backing out?

i would call the hall, when is the last day for the 'official headcount'? i THINK ours can be up to 2 weeks before, but i don't remember... hopefully the others won't back out and you will make the minimum, and maybe the hall will be a little flexible, worth a try...

Ok...so, there's more to this story...

The person that backed out...said she gets panic attacks and can't be a car for a 2 hour drive. This has to be a complete crock of sh!t because she commutes one hour each way to work....this is so dumb. The other people have confirmed that they don't want to drive 'all the way to the island' alone. Bunch of lazy ignorant a$$-holes!!! I'm sorry...I'm just mad.

I have to call in my final count to the hall on April 6 (Tuesday). I guranteed 75 people...with them backing out...we will only have 72 people. I guess I will ask the hall to count the vendors as guests...but what a waste of money! Also...now I will have a table that is half empty. I feel like those people will think they were 'leftovers' because they are sitting at an empty table.

FH has hated his job for a while now...and although these are people from his work...this just adds insult to injury. If we could afford it...I would let him pack up his stuff and walk out the door! Thanks for listening

Kim I'm so sorry to hear that! You have every right to be angry! This girl didn't know when she RSVP'd that she has panic attacks? Did these people just find out your wedding is on the island????

It's pretty crappy for them to back out at the last minute like that, but as far as the tables go, could you do a little rearranging. Maybe pull one couple from 2 diferent tables to kind of balance things out? Make sure your hall knows how many are at each table and they can space things out instead of leaving empty place settings.
