Oh of course he will. Even if the whole teams slumps for the first couple months, Yanks are known to have a better 2nd half of season.

I say this as a Met fan - it was ONLY GAME TWO. No need to poke fun so early...especially with the Yankees record.

When else am I going to poke fun -- in October when "the best team money can buy" spends their way into another World Series?
A 200 million dollar payroll beat a 30 million dollar payroll--big acomplishment there

With the Mets being the second highest paid team, and not producing the way the Yankees do, you can't really use that argument with a straight face.
Besides, the Yanks have fallen short in October the past few years - I suspect the Dynasty is over (much like it was in the '80's) for now.

I will admit that the Mets brass manage the money poorly, but I think I can make an argument because unlike the Yanks, the only source of revenue for the Mets is the team. The Yanks have a TV network, and Steinbrenner also half-owns the Nets.

regardless of how much money whos got, it's the players that make the team win. Maybe the mets will make it to the top again one of these years..only time will tell. and as for this year goes, let the scoreboards tell who's better in the end..but I know in my gut I'll be sitting at more post-season games this year...

Well said. And like I said in the other Yankee thread, it's the talent that wins the games - the money buys the talent not the wins (look at the Knicks - high payroll but can barely produce wins, same with the Rangers). The Yankees spend the money while other teams choose not to. Boston could have had A-Rod, they chose not to pay the money. I'm not a big fan of Steinbrenner personally, but he does all he can to ensure that his team wins.
And I hope the Mets do well. It will make the season more interesting and fun for all New Yorkers.

Actually, the Mets are only about 80 million.. defintely not the second highest paid team. Boston would hold that honor I think..

Nitpicker - I guess my stats were a year or so old. Besides, it's about $87 million. With Boston at $125. Which is laughable - Boston.

YES, I'm a nitpicker! LOL
If the facts aren't straight, I refuse to debate!
You were about a year off which isn't bad... the Mets had their fire sale at the trading deadline last year.

Really? He's probably the best short stop in baseball - and imo, they should have moved Jeter to 3rd and not A-Rod. But it's only been game 2 of a long season...I'm sure he'll prove to be worth it. He's always been a great player - which would explain why George went after him.

Personally i don't think he was worth giving up Andy Petite for. I think that you need a whole team that plays well not just one or two super stars...
Jordan...I know how good he is. that wasn't my point

Petite wanted to leave - he wasn't pushed out or exchanged.
You didn't really make a point - you just stated...which is what I did in return.

interesting.. well the Yanks should make the playoffs.. and the playoffs is all about pitching.. so you could very well end up being 100% correct..... we'll see.
I know you like the Stros'... you shouyld be very happy with Pettite there.. they are going to have a very good picthing staff.
they'll play great games against the Cubs and Cards.. it'll be fun to watch!

Yes but i wasn't denying how good A-rod can be...which is what you wanted to explain to me.
I think Andy would definately stayed if givin a contract and it was rude the way he was treated. And i think that is reflected when Clemens signed with the Astros

with Pettitte, the Yankees pursued him but didn't make a TRUE run at him.. Torre could have called him, etc.. he didn't; neither did George.. and Andy just wanted to go home.

Re: A-Rod Goes 0-5!!!
Well they spent all this money on this A-rod, they better pick up a good pitcher because they will go down in flames...
Just like the money well spent on idiot Giambi...SHould have kept Tino..
I just hate when they spend money on these "power players" and for what....Giambi hasn't done S*#@!

Jordan, I think the only reason they kept Jeter at shortstop was because of Torre and the players, mostly Torre. Torre made him the captain. If you move him to 3rd, away from the position he's had all this time, it's almost like an insult and might upset team chemistry. Jeter and A-Rod have a past, they didn't want to add to it. Someone like Pinella or Valentine would have moved Jeter in a heartbeat

Yeah A-rod is great but it was and always will be Jeters position, its his team, at least it's becomign that way, A-rod wasnt brought in to be short stop...
